Hi I'm just a kid wonderin about HBCU's well I'm 16, but that's besides the point.... anywayz... I don't know about Howard or Spelman, or any schools in Cali. My dad would really want me to go to a California school, but i have a feeling i might be stuck with the asians or caucasians (no offense) and all my life i've lived in a city where the population of blacks is so low that if you see a black person down the street, you have to say 'hi' because it's so rare anywayz my dad says that Howard used to be the black harvard and it's full of nigerians, i'm nigerian btw but born here, and spelman is in georgia where it's in the south, but you know what, i don't know..right now i'm just rambling I might go to howard this summer and check it out before my senior year, but give me some input on Howard and Spelman, how is it there? What's a typical day? Is it a small college where u recognize faces, or semi huge college where u see different people. Thanks a lot!
Hey how are you doing? Well being from Atlanta, I naturally applied to Spelman and was interested in attending the school for some time. Although I do not attend Spelman, I will try and give you the information I know about the school and what others who have attended have shared with me. Everytime I have been there, everyone seemed so nice like one big family and Spelman is a relatively small school. So if you are looking for a small, structured school then I think Spelman is that place. Also, Morehouse and Clark are right next door, well in the same area. Now, I had a friend attend Spelman and she did not like it one bit. She felt the girls were catty and very judgemental. I did not notice this when I went, but I think you will find those types of females anywhere. My best friend goes to Howard, but I will not comment on that. The best thing I can tell you is to visit both campuses or at least call to receive information about both schools, then make the decision you feel is right for you. I really hoped this helped, and as soon as I find out more info then I will share it with you. Good luck.
Definitely visit both colleges to truely get a feel of them. If you don't mind a small college, then you wouldn't have a problem with Spelman. As with the catty girls, they're everywhere. And just like ATLprincess said, Morehouse and Clark are literally RIGHT across the street, and they're open campuses. Being that you're 16, you have plenty of time to think about colleges, because I have changed my mind so many times since then!
