ok.. i'll admit it.. i've been procrastinating a little bit on all the college stuff. but now i'm tryna take care of my responsibilities and deadlines and get all that stuff squared away. and so now i'm finding myself thinking about my 'future' all the time and coming up with all these questions like:
*what are the freshman girls dorms like at hampton??? i'm supposed to put down my top 2 preferences but i have no idea. when i toured hampton they didn't show us any of the dorms and i forgot about which one had AC, which one has better rooms.. etc.
*is it a hassle to have a major and minor in two completely different areas?? cuz i'm interested in both bio and print journalism.. what are those majors like?
basically i'm just a slightly anxious incoming freshman wanting to get some info on how things are at hu. i'd appreciate any kind of insight, especially about girls dorms and academics.
hey Im a future Hamptonian too and I had all those questions. I just searched this entire forum for any posts about Hampton and also look at HBCU prospects. Both of these forums have good info. There is one forum in particular that has the web addresse of a Hampton Graduate... his website was so helpful!!!!! He gives every detail of Hampton except for the dorms part. but look at it anyways.
There is also quite a few Hamptonians at xanga.com. go to jump to then type in Hampton Pirates and you'll see pics and profiles of current Hampton students.
Good Luck!
Hello ladies,
I hope I am not too late in replying back to your post, I am hardly on this site anymore. Anyhow, the freshmen female dorms will all have AC when you arrive in the Fall. There are a total of 6 female freshmen dorms.
Kennedy(Queens)
Kelsey(Knockouts)
Twitchell(Trendsetters)
Virginia-Clevland(VC Cutties)
Moton(Missies)
Davidon(Divas)
Those are the freshmen female dorms. If you receive a Presidential Scholarship more than likely you will be living in Kennedy. But to answer your questions about the dorms, all female dorms will have AC next year. When selecting a dorm you need to consider a few things. If you like living with a lot of females, then you may wanna put down Virginia-Clevland. If you like a secluded dorm, you may wanna put down Moton. If you like to be in the middle of the action, you may wanna put down Kennedy. If you wanna be on the back side of campus in the female social scene you can put down Kelsey, Twitchell or Davidson. But for the most part all dorms are close to each other, with the exception of Moton Hall. But you will meet friends in other dorms and it wont be a problem. I lived in a dorm with no AC for a semester and to be honest, its not that bad, especially since the school sits on the waterfront.
About double majoring. I would be careful before I do, especially as a freshmen. I am by no means trying to discourage you, but just want you to think this through. Once you sign up for a double major, you are held accountable for the requirements of BOTH the majors before you are allowed to graduate. Hampton does not say you cannot minor in two seperate fields, however, I do advise you to make sure your fields relate, because you do not want be a journalism major, minoring in math.
For the young lady who is a Biolgoy major wanting to minor in Print Journalism, GOOD LUCK. You are gonna have a lot of work to do and hardly anytime for a social life. I would advise u to minor in like another science or math. I say that because, you have to test into Scripps Howard School of Journalism and you do not want to put the added stress upon yourself. Another thing you may want to do is, go to the school's website and check out the course catalog and see what the minor requirements are and if you will be able to minor in that and graduate on time. But if you feel you can do it, then MORE POWER TO YA.
I wish you the best of luck and again, Welcome to "Our Home by the Sea"
Be Blessed and a Blessing
