Don't be afraid to expand your horizons. The purpose of college is to put yourself in a new environment and meet new people, in order for you to learn new things. If you're apprehensive about leaving home, know that once you get settled in at school, you'll have a new group of friends, and you'll still be able to stay in contact with your friends and family back home. Do a couple campus visits and see what schools feel like a good fit. If you finish first semester and you really don't like it, you can always transfer somewhere closer to home.
