I'm going to florida A&M for college for fall 05' (few days from now) just want to know if there were others out there making the move out of state. (i'm from new york).Finances were working agiainst me to go all the way to florida( I live in walking distance of my county's community college and I received a hefty amount from my other college choices(also nearby). but i just wanted to go to florida(no good reason other than there's no snow). I know there's gotta be others out there who were daring to go "away" from home. shout yourself out! Especially if you are from the north going south. I'm coming all the way from New York so it better be poppin!

Lol...Im bout to be a college junior but Ima answer anyway. I wanted to go outta state cause I wanted to be in a new environment, be away from my family, go to an HBCU, and make friends from other places. I knew that if I stayed in state I woulda saw and new alotta the same people from my h.s. and other surrounding h.s. in my area at my school, and I just didnt wanna be close to home. Im VERY happy with my choice to go to school outta state. It teaches you independence cause you cant hope mommy and daddy can drive 2hrs to help you out in a situation if u going thru sumthing. Thats not to knock people who go to school in state. Its all about personal preference, but nothing beats a long summer at home and lookin forward to leavin ur home state to go back to school and go back to the 2nd culture you have adapted too, but still bringing the culture that you are use to with you. Staying in state wouldnt have been enough diversity for me, and I know my college experience would not have been as great as it has been since I decided to go away.

I decided to go to school out of state because I feel like I depend on my family a little too much;and I've never been on my own before; so I decided it was time to go.

I decided to go to an out of state college because I really liked the school and the campus, and I really wanted to get away from home, moneywise I know my parents will be hurting but I just had to go to TSU.

for out of state students it's 8,000 a semester, it's cheaper than Spelman and Howard but it's still more than my parents can afford.
