How did you teach yourself Spanish? I took about 4 years of Spanish but never learned it fluently. I can read Spanish when I see it. Did you use those Spanish self-help books or do you have friends who speak Spanish? I know a lot of people who have said that they picked up a foreign language quickly by being around friends who speak it.
Lol its okay...
I dunno I like, no wait love,
Challenging myself [[I love learning period]]
I mean I taught myself spanish, so hey, I know its possible.
Oh, I'm not saying it's not. It's just rather difficult and annoying. I'm sorry, I'm ranting here. I had a French teacher who punished our 'uncultured' American **** by speaking purely in French. That lecon.

Everyone learns differently so maybe that may work for some.
For me I studied when I was in the 3rd-4th grade, because I wanted to.
just came home one day found an advanced teaching book in the house and I studied it.
I mean it wasn't an everyday thing, it was pick up the book when i felt and try. Most of the time I would just watch Spanish tv shows, or put things in Spanish subtitles.
Finally when I was in the 9th grade I was assigned Spanish 1 [although my heart was set on French (my school doesnt teach French)].
My teacher pointed out that I knew most of the things, or caught on very quickly. [passed the class with 1110%]
Now-a-days I've became closer to my Friend, whom is now my best-friend, and she has the same passion I do, and we both progressed together, and can speak Spanish at any point in time we wish to. [we still expand our vocabulary now while we are in Spanish 2, cause we choose to]
[[sorry so long]]

Ha! My teacher was a native all right...of Missouri. Oh, they do, in Canada and France. Unless you speak French, then they're all cool as a cucumber with you.

An imposter!!!! NO!!!!!!!!
Yeah I know, but its because of the way we conduct ourselves in their country.
how can we go to another's home and be unsympathetic to the fact that they do not speak our native tounge. Then we have the audacity to turn up the volume of our voices when they cannot understand us.
its weird, we somehow, believe we are superior to all, or thats how they view some americans!

That’s interesting that you started in the 3rd grade learning a foreign language. I’m thinking about trying to learn to speak it fluently again. I wonder who I will be able to speak it to, because no one that I know speaks Spanish. I still remember a lot of the vocabulary words and verbs. The only issue I had with Spanish was conjugating the verbs and remembering that everything is backwards from English. For instance, adjectives and adverbs always come after the nouns and verbs. If I can just learn to conjugate the verbs and remember each tense, it will be a breeze for me to learn it.
I have read articles that people have enough time in the day to learn a foreign language. People just waste time watching television, talking on the phone, and playing on the Internet. If I would take some of this time that I play on the HBCU Connect forums, I could easily learn a second language. LOL
