Welcome HOME!!!
If you're a guy and have over a 2.5 and over a 1000 on the SAT, i'd say you have a pretty safe chance of getting in. It's usually more competitive at most colleges for women because there is usually a higher ratio of women to men. Your SAT score sounds impressive tho, so i'd just recommend that you make sure you have other aspects there to balance out your application. Make sure you're involved at school, have some type of leadership positions, and/or doing community service.
Oh, and also make sure your personal statement (admissions essay) is on point. You could possibly use that as an opportunity to explain your gpa. If you had some personal problems, family issues, or some type or trial or obstacle that occured that would look impressive (i'm not sayin lie...but u know, sumtimes ya gotta fluff the story up a lil bit lol). At the end of the day, admissions just wants to be convinced that you would be an asset to the university. Your job is to prove that in your application
Hey,
That is very warm and welcoming. I will be new to Howard University this year. There are different stereotypes of the student body at Howard University. Tell me, how did you like it when you were a freshman, and is it true (from what some people say) that a lot of people on campus are quote, unquote "bougie" (hope i spelled it right, lol), or is it like a very wide mix of personalities and cultures?
Hey,
That is very warm and welcoming. I will be new to Howard University this year. There are different stereotypes of the student body at Howard University. Howard University is a microcosm; there are a plethora of personalities and honestly, there are "bougie" people at HU. But thats life...there are bougie people everywhere so you might as well get used to it at Howard.
I loved freshmen year (but sophomore year was my favorite). I partied too much and wasnt as focused as I should have been. I was overwhelmed by everything Howard had to offer and I was not used to the freedom of being 10 hours away from home.
Stay focused, study hard and remember that you are in college To Get An Education.
Just like any stereotype, it may hold some truth, HOWEVER...it may not be the entire picture. A stereotype about Black people is that we like fried chicken and can't swim. Are there black people that like fried chicken? Yes. Are there Black people that can't swim? Yes. But is that EVERY Black person. Nope, not at all.
Yes, there are students at HU that are bourgoiuse. But that is because alot of students here come from priviledged backgrounds. In addition, Howard likes to pick the best of the best. So alot of these students are people that were student body presidents, school leaders, high achievers, and mr./ms. popular at their past schools. My friends and I used to always say "Howard is the home of the superstars". Becuz so many people came here already thinking they made it. Some folks continue to be trailblazers while here, and others...get their bubbles busted lol.
But like Truth said, there is a mix of so much at HU. There are students from the caribbean, Africa, the US, and so many other places from all over the world. It is very diverse, so you will never see just ONE thing. Even though it is mostly Black people here, I think HU is more diverse than my highschool in Los Angeles that was more racially mixed. People think differently, talk differently, and behave differently.
So are we bourgiouse? Yep. But guess what...we have a right to be. We attend THEE BEST HBCU in the nation
WOW... I havent been on here in a minute!!!
Good job answering these questions!!
Anybody going to be in the John H. Johnson School of Communications (Radio, Television & Film) I am glad to answer any questions.
How is wheatley's room????? oh la la.... is it difficult getting on the team???
If you can dance, catch on to routines quickly, are height/weight proportionate, cute in the face, slim in the waist, then you will have no problem being an Ooh La La girl.
I think Ooh La La try outs are closed to the public now, but man, when they used to have auditions on the Yard in front of Fine Arts I used to be on the floor ****!!!
My freshman year i had a room in Wheatley (shout out to the "dub4...PENTHOUSE!"). I enjoyed my quad experience (crazy roomate and all...ok, maybe notsomuch that part lol). But yeah, It was interesting. So is it hot living without AC? Yep...I won't even lie to ya lol. But bring a fan and you'll live lol. Plus, with the heat like that, everyone keeps their doors open, and that makes it a better communal space. Trust, by the end of the year you would know every chick on your floor and all of ya'll would end up havin each other's back (well...accept for the ones u don't like...jk). Not to mention, the rooms are BIG, so you don't have to worry about being all cramped up like they are in the rooms with AC (Truth & Crandall Hall). So like i said, bring a fan and you'll be aight (maybe even a portable AC if you're ballin lol).
As for Ooh La La. Is it difficult to make it? Yep...I won't lie to ya about that one either lol. If it was easy, everybody and their momma would be out on the football field during half time backin their thangs up lol. They usually seek women who have prior dance experience and some type of formal training. I don't think it is a requirement, but ya definately have to have sum skillz if you plan on puttin on that shiny spandex (a nice body wouldn't hurt either). I had friends who were on the squad, and they can dance their butts off.
Thanks for the heads up on Wheatley !!!!!
dag so its hard.....i really love dancing too!!! i want to do some form of dance team.....any suggestions????
