Envision African Americans and Hispanics coming together in all aspects of issues that relate to its people. Both groups have their own voices that speak out for them for injustice and governmental wrongs that they feel harm their people. For both to unite and conquer would be phenomenal. For generations we have seen that people of the Caucasian persuasion rally together when they are offended. Italian, Jewish, and Polish, it doesn't matter all they know is that they are white and they have been wronged by people of darker complexion.
Separately, both nationalitites have made strides to come out of the field hand position by education and long hard work for minimal pay in order to prove loyalty. To unite could shake the very foundation that we have come to know and settle for. Because we have to be honest and realize that it is more of us in all institutions except higher education and corporate work forces. Everywhere else, we as one are the MAJORITY. For instance look at the jails, public school sytems, and menial labor forces.
African Americans and Hispanics in the United States as two separate minorities can accomplish nothign but if we were to come together as one, we could not be considered as a minority. Both nationalities have brought cultural changes tot he forefront of this country that people can not live without. We need tocome together to crack the glass ceiling that keeps us from reaching goals that others don't seem to notice. This country was built on our forefather's blood and sweat. We constantly and consistently continue to make avenues for others to comfortably in without recognition.
Culturally we as one, lead the country for people to attach themselves to our means and ways of life. If you are not bilingual then you are an exception. Cuisines have been adopted famously, so much that what we considered a poor person dinner, now know as delicasies. Fashions, fads, music, language, have all been high-jacked and applies a high price tag to everything due to high demand by other nationalities (mostly white children with long dollars). The media plays a very big part in this facade as well. Although we see faces andhear voices that sound and look like us. Still those arenot their opinion or their views. The are scripted parts that we fall into because we let the media (television and radio) tell us what is in and what is out. Only we are not the proprietors of these establishments. They use arge marketing firms that scale everything in order to make the biggest buck off of the poorest people.
The relationship between African Americans and Hispanics is strained because of the harsh treatment that they both have received for generations andhave not come to terms that we are in the same boat but are not rowing together. One rowing one way, the other rowing another. The strain of overcoming is just as hard for one as it is for the other. Having to struggle to keep their children fed, schooled, clothed, and out of the prison system. Both, working hard trying to live the american dream. Not realizing that two alliances are stronger than one. What is the american dream? To be established in our field of work, large house, foreign car, good schools and bank accounts that are never empty because your credit is maxed. Is this what we really want for our children? Is this the legacy that we want to leave them?
Historically Black Colleges and Universities need to continue to support the needs of African Americans and Hispanics for the simple fact that they are windows that children have not figured out how to open as of yet. Everywhere they go on campus they are the majority. If they could simply take that mentality out into the world with them when they finish school. I believe that would be the beginning of the big **** change that we as a people need. Learning what our people have went through without the history being whitewashed. When we take a look at our past and the mistakes as well as the accomplishments, that can truly be a solid foundation for both nationalities to build a dynamic change for the better of this country and reap the benefits of our ancestor's hard work.
