The relationship between African Americans and Hispanics in the United States has its ups and downs. Our differences have kept us apart but our similarities should bring us together. As minorities, Hispanics and African Americans care about the same issues such as education, healthcare, and civil equality. ****, crime and poverty plague our communities. Why do we not solve these problems together? Communication is the first step towards understanding each others differences and breaking through stereotypes. African American and Hispanic community leaders and political leaders need to increase communication between each other and encourage communication between Hispanics and African Americans. The more we learn about each other, the more we will realize that we have many similarities and common battles. Once we build a stronger relationship, we can work together to focus on issues we encounter as minorities.Healthcare, education and crime are some topics both groups try to address. More can be accomplished by pulling our resources together and creating solutions to these problems. Educating communities is an important tool in spreading information about health issues such as cardiovascular disease, HIV and ****. Battling crime should start within communities. We can work together to reach out to children and young adults and promote education to reduce crime. Our collaboration needs to start in our communities which will lead to a stronger relationship and greater improvements in the future.Working together we can strengthen our communities and increase representation in local and federal governments. We will have a louder voice and be able to develop solutions through changes in policies and representation. More minorities need to be aware of the rights and power we have as US citizens and increase the number of minority voters in all political elections. These changes will benefit younger generations and encourage them to work together as minorities. An important issue for Hispanics and African Americans is education. It is a key component to reducing crime and poverty. Higher education needs to be more accessible to minorities, and young adults need to be more aware of the benefits of education. Black colleges and universities promote higher education among African Americans. They provide a college community that allows African American young adults to embrace their culture and background. They should continue to reach out to African Americans, but they should expand their recruitment of Hispanics. A larger attendance of Hispanics at Black colleges and universities would greatly benefit Hispanics and strengthen the relationship between African Americans and Hispanics. These colleges and universities have had a positive impact on increasing the number of African American college graduates and they could increase the number of Hispanic graduates. The growing population of Hispanics in the US is encountering some of the same issues as African Americans. Instead of competing and dividing ourselves due to our differences, we need to see the benefit of working together as minorities in finding solutions and improving our way of life. Together we can preserve our cultures and continue to educate future generations.
