African-American and Hispanics Unity Posted on 05-26-2007

According to the American constitution, Blacks are equal to everyone else and it also states equality to all living in the United States. Unfortunately, as of 2007, this does not seem to be the case. But it is not hard for any person such as myself to notice that the American constitution sometimes contradicts itself. For example, the first amendment affirms freedom of speech for all in the US but I do not think that it supports the idea of speech that declares pure hatred. With organization such as ****, there will always be racism and discrimination towards other ethnicities. The American government should take in consideration the thirteenth amendment, which called for the end of slavery but if the **** is still allowed to exist, discrimination, which is a form of slavery, will remain. The **** violates all morals ranging from hatred towards certain ethnicities, religions. It is not fair for an organization that brings hate and **** to exist. It only brings unacceptable political and social issues upfront. It is a social norm nowadays for blacks and Hispanics to be at the bottom of the ethnicity hierarchy. Blacks are constantly oppressed by the stereotypes that suggest that they are uneducated, sell **** for the majority of the time and only care about hip-hop music videos which portray all females as **** and doing **** is “dope.” Hispanics also have to deal with their share of discrimination. Hispanics are portrayed through the media as thieves, poor, and dishonest. For most cases, these events are usually true but are caused by the prejudice and the lack of attention from the government. Blacks and Hispanics need to stand together as minorities to discuss political issues because both ethnicities are mistreated and they need to prove to the government that they too are human beings and show that their cultures need to be valued. The media has the power to influence others; yet, it often denigrates the population of the lower classified ethnicities. As far as political issues are concerned, the American community recognizes itself as being racist. The school system is proof that America has a lot of growing up to do. When it comes to jobs, whites are always above due to proper education and qualifications and the pattern becomes this manner to make way for people of the same ethnicity, but this starts with the school system. In my hometown, I had realized that after elementary school and entering junior high school, all of the students were separated based on intelligence supposedly. One group was the whites, Orientals, and Middle Easterns and the other groups were mainly Hispanics and Blacks. That same pattern transferred through the rest of my high school career. By the time of our graduation, the top 5% of the class were all whites, Orientals, and Middle Easterns. If the school system were true then anyone could have the opportunity to succeed. Culturally, America needs to show more respect to other people from different backgrounds. The media tends to show the appalling side of a culture, which allows more space for discrimination. Blacks and Hispanics can strengthen their relationship by being more open-minded. They need to understand each other’s struggles and feed from each other to better their state of mind. Both ethnicities need to stop comparing each other to see which is worst out of the two, then the anger and frustration built up from living in an unfair country contributes to one group of persons to put the other one down in order to feel good about themselves. The existence of black colleges and universities is proof that America is still segregated. Blacks and Hispanics as minorities are not given the chance to progress and succeed and it all starts with the education. Black schools should give the opportunity to minorities because they can contribute to society and exceed in America at all levels. Associating with students in the same situation, it can enhance their intelligence and enhance their will. It will be easier for them to concentrate academically and will help them become more ambitious. It would be appropriate for schools to reward students with full scholarships more often and provide more available internships in order for students to receive more experience in the workplace, ameliorate their social skills, and nourish them with knowledge.
