Growing up many kids lived in a community, but certain communities were prominent than others. A community is a sense of family where you should feel safe and respect one another. We need to realize that made to help each other. Unfortunately, in the Black American community we tear down our brothers and sisters when they are trying to make progress, but we should turn that green-eyed envy and jealously into love which will uplift them. In the Black American community it is important to re-build a sense of community that transcends socioeconomic boundaries because for too long we have been bound by rules. Its human nature to think about what others think of them, but it becomes a problem when you tend to dwell on that situation. Regardless of what society thinks we need to re-build our community where we can learn all over again to help each other. Society for too long has called the shots so it’s up to US to show them we don’t need their help because we can act peaceful and civilized. The value of economics pertains to the necessities of life. Black Americans are more than equipped to work in this world. In the Bible it states in Proverbs 3:27, “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is ****, when it is in the power of your hand to do so.” God won’t hold any good from man in other wards were blessed. We are able to provide a stable financial income for our families because it’s found in scripture. We have fragmentations that have divided our race and it’s only up to US to connect them. We need to be more involved with each other, but not to be nosy. Get to know each other in order to revive the community. Stop using the n***a word because other race thinks it’s acceptable to call US that. We fuss and fight about the word, but look whose setting the example that it’s okay to use the word on US. It’s sad to say, but we have divided our race a good bit and now it’s time to put the foot down. We need to learn to love each other for the way they are and then we can bridge the gaps within our race. The characteristics of a growing and thriving community would be those who watch out for each other. We have to remember that we are our brother’s keeper. Trust is a big factor which can enhance the community. Be open with your ideas and criticism at community watch meetings. The community watch meetings are a time to fellowship outside of everyday routine and to focus more on how to improve the community. The bottom line is that a growing and thriving community needs to have the ultimate characteristic of a nurturing family. Online social networking platforms such as HBCU Connect, Facebook and MySpace best serve to aid in establishing the community that closely mimics the natural communities because you befriend people as you would do in person. Those people whose community is not active is seeking community through the internet. It’s the only way they feel like they belong apart of something that cares about them. The network platforms mimics the natural communities to which we are accustomed to growing up, but we have to remember this is a new generation and things evolve over time. A community is composed of many attributes and it means more to other races than others. For Black Americans the community is our stronghold for everything we face in life. The sense of community represents the unity within US. The song we use to sing, “We Shall Overcome” has been reality more than a score ago, but it’s up to US to walk in our destiny.
