African Americans along with Hispanics make up a huge population of the United States. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported in 2000 that there were 35 million African American individuals in the United States and that by 2035 there will be approximately 50 million. They also reported that there were 37.4 million Hispanics in the United States and by 2040 there will be approximately 87.5 million Hispanics in the United States. As the two largest minority groups in the United States we are capable of influencing politics and the perception of our communities. Similar problems and similar interest in issues involving our communities, politicians, and our economic standing gives us similar goals. It has been reported by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention that non minority groups suffer less from preventable diseases, death, and disability then minority groups. By working together and organizing forums for the African American and Hispanic community we ensure that our voices are heard and that we leave a lasting effect on politicians and those in our communities. We are capable of positively affecting the course of our communities and it is long overdue. To strengthen the relationships between the African American and Hispanic communities in the United States we must inform those in each community of the similar problems and the similar goals in each community. There has to be an organized effort put forth by those in the community to inform the whole community of the issues that effect them directly and indirectly. By informing the community you are allowing them to obtain information to empower themselves and ultimately the whole community. The bond between the two minority groups will be strengthen and educated on their shared interest. Historically Black Colleges and Universities are capable of forming networking skills amongst the largest minority groups in the United States. With the networking capabilities of these students and graduates the makeup of companies all over the United States are able to be effected. These institutions of higher learning not only produce strong educated individuals ready for the world but they produce leaders that serve as examples for the younger generations. These colleges are able to help give there students a sense of self as well as a sense of community. The graduates of historically black colleges and universities come out of school with the ability influence their communities and the world. These institutions should continue to provide the services they do to their students and surrounding communities by educating our future leaders. It’s important for the betterment of minority communities all over the United States to work together for the greater good of our communities and our country. The African American and Hispanic community make up a large percent of the population of the United States and by empowering and meeting the needs of these groups we are building up our country. By continuing to build up and support existing programs and institutions that provide services to the African American and Hispanic community we are building leaders and helping to meet the needs of these two minority groups and others.
