When asked about the issues that hinder the minority community many come to mind. ****, ****, teen pregnancy and a lack of responsibility with parenting are few examples of many that keep minorities from prospering. But what is misunderstood is that the word minority does not only describe the African American community. The definition of a minority is a sociological group that does not constitute a politically dominant plurality of the total population of a given society, and based off of recent statistics this refers to the African American and Hispanic communities. This is why both communities need to work together to address the political, cultural, and communication issues that hinder our communities. The individualistic mentality has proven unsuccessful with moving ourselves ahead economically. The thinking that you will make it on your own is nothing but a selfish route towards loneliness. This thinking causes others to be left behind without guidance and role models. We can no longer think that blacks and hispanics alone can free themselves from the mental bondage that keeps us from believing that we can improve our current lifestyle that the world wants to burry us in. It makes sense to work together as one community because both communities need to address and fix the same issues. Both communities still deal with horrible educations given to their youth because of the destructive attitudes of teaches, who feel that minority students aren’t worth their time. Both communities still deal with gang ****, which takes young lives daily over pontless confrontations. Both communities are misrepresented in Corporate America, from a lack of understanding that a college education opens opportunities to succeed. We also deal with the misrepresentation and degrading of our women by supporting the music and ideas that do nothing but supply poison to the youth by misguiding their thinking of how women should be treated. And both communities are still stuck in the materialistic mindset that makes us believe that the newest sneaker and style is more important than going to college to establish and secure a bright future for a potential family. It is time for a change! There is no other way to solve our separate community issues than to become one community moving towards complete liberty and prosperity for everyone. The issue that keeps Blacks and Hispanics from coming together in one community is that we have established a new form a segregation. This type of segregation needs no sign because it is represented on our being. African Americans and Hispanics have separated themselves in two separate ghettos with the mindset of killing each other if one moves into anothers territory. This is nothing but a representation of the frustration that is felt from not being able to move ahead economically. Each community has attempted to move forward separately and failed, leaving only the solution of coming together. We must realize that each commuity has something to offer and bring to the table. Each group has something unique that their ancestors has taught them and passed down to them, which allowed for them to survive. It is with these passed down stories and traditions that is needed from each community in order to establish a solid foundation as on ecommunity. The Hispanic community can bring forth examples of great family togetherness and community bonding, while the African American community can bring forth the drive to never give up and to never settle for anything less than the best. What needs to be accomplished to strengthen the relationship between these two communities are the creation of community events that reah out to all instead of advertising separately. Secondly I believe that the church involvement is crucial to the success of bringing the communities together. Once the church ends the segregation and truly excepts all people into their scantuary will we then be able to move forward. Preaching messages that are only beneficial to one community will no longer be efficient in the fight for becoming a well represented whole community. The church is looked up to in the community and it must take responsibility for the needs of the people in and around its community. I also believe that education plays a great role in ending the segreagation. I believe that it is a wonderful idea to have HBCU’s that devote their time to training up young African Americans for leadership in their communities, but I do feel that these schools should also recruit in the Hispanic communities as well in order for each community to have a chance in enhancing their people. Historically Black Colleges are the key to the success in the development of all minority students. These schools have a responsibility to its community to not only attrack African American students, but Hispanic students as well. We can not allow ourselves to become satisfied with all of the accomplishments of a few black students, when there is hardly a representation of Hispanic students. The importance of HBCU’s continuing to support the needs of African American students as well as the needs of the growing Hispanic population is because leadership is needed in all communities. My generation will be faced with issues that no other generation has ever encountered in the near future with the revolution of technology and how scientist are attempting to create a relationship and connection between technology and humans. Leaders are needed in all communities because these new issues will affect every community and it will not be effeicient to only have a leader in one specific community. This is because even though both communities need to come together to address our similar issues we will naturally be drawn to a leader who can relate to our circumstances. Our overall goal is the same but this does not mean that their will only be one tool used in the leadership of the community. This is why HBCU’s cannot leave out the Hispanic community while recruiting and selecting students for enrollment. Leadership in the African American community is just as crucial as leadership in the Hispanic community. Education is the key to success and a college education will promote leadership. Morehouse teaches leadership to all of its students allowing them to realize that without leadership visions are not derived, which are the key to moving our communities forward. Morehouse is a key example of how it understands that the Black and Hispanic culture both need leadership, which is why it recruits in all areas of the world. I attend Morehouse with brothers from all over the United States and other countries like Ghana and Brazil. So while I matriculate through Morehouse College I share my experience with young men from the African American and Hispanic communities because I have realized that it is important for all to realize that the key to community prosperity is through leadership and the uplift of each other. While I am a leader for the African American community I feel that it is important to reach out to all of my young brothers in the Afrcan American and the Hispanic community so that one day both communities can move forward together out of mental and economic bondage.
