African-American and Hispanics Forge a United Front
African-Americans and Hispanics should indeed, work together as minorities in America. After all the two cultures rank as the most populous, by statistical comparison and the latter is steadily increasing. Pertinent issues that are vital to general well-being include political, cultural, communication and community issues. Measures to strengthen the relationship between the two must be devised and implemented. Likewise black institutions of higher learning must continue to ever increase support because of the ability to peruse in-house data. A needs assessment could readily result in devising applicable strategies for a peaceful co-existence. Benefit, not only for minorities, would result, but also for the general masses.
There is power in numbers as it pertains to the political structure, but only if voting isn deemed an absolute must. America’s government is...“ of the people and for the people.” But, most importantly, it must be run by the people. It is a mechanism that must be fine tuned and turned through active participation. Issues of life are suspended on the wheel of justice that acts and executes plans that elevate the human condition. Factors such as fair wages, equal employment opportunity, safety in the workplace, humane working conditions and all others that lend themselves to justice for all, are works in progress and must never be treated as a “done deal.” Statistics show that minorities rank low in voter participation. This status simply must rise if the quality of life is expected to do likewise.
Cultural awareness lends itself to one’s own personal customs trends and behaviors. Understanding the conditions of one’s heritage leads to self acceptance. It also creates an appreciation for the differences of other nationalities. It paves the way for open communication among the races. Such is vital for orderly, societal growth. Open communication between the masses eases friction that results in conflict. Open discussion clears the air of pollutants such as prejudicial mind-sets and acts of discrimination.
Communication embraces a multitude of issues. Dialogue must be open and encouraged. Mere lip service should be guarded against and any other barriers that hinder or threaten unity. Individuals must feel that they are valued and respected. Living in close proximity brings to bear, issues of life. These include property upkeep, orderly conduct and crime watch or other measures of prevention. Community encompasses a general area, but starts within the individual.
Historically black institutions of higher learning should continue to support the needs of African-Americans students and definitely should consider satisfying the needs of the growing Hispanic and Afro-Hispanic population in America. Special Funding should be solicited for such by appealing to governmental sources with clear objectives for implementation due to the fact that these institutions have been successful in affecting such.
Consequently, education yields high returns. On the contrary, refusal to aid in equipping the population with marketable skills will ultimately contribute to a lower standard of living and possibly, crime. Education is a win, win situation. The world owes no man a living, but each one should teach one__ creating a ripple far - reaching results that will likely extend into the future !!
