African American & Hispanic Unity "Essay Submission" Posted on 06-01-2007

Patricia Hill age 53 June 1, 2007 Time: 8:48 P.M. African American & Hispanic Unity Essay Submission For me, an African American, and a black women make me a miniority. I did not grow up in the era of slavery, however I do remember the Civil Rights Movement, and segragation. Yet, I know while growing up the Black Americans where always degraded, and looked upon as worhtless. I always viewed Blacks and Hispanics as a beautiful color of people. Am, I being bias because of my skin color, " NO" I am just calling it as I see it. It is true in some of our communities we make it bad for ourselves. We degrade and deface property and we lose sight of working together to help better our surroundings. It is ironic that both African Americans and Hispanics can do alot more working together and voicing our opinions and morals to our political leaders to beautify our surroundings and pour money into our urban neighborhoods. If they could see us working together even though some of our cultural backgrounds differ. Our black men are being gunned down in our streets, and why should our political leaders step in if we never speak up for our own communities. The Bible speaks of "Who is thou neighbor?" Thou shalt love the Lord with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all my strength and thy mind, and thy neighbor as thy self. " Who is my neighbor, my Hispanic brother or sister is my neighbor. My Hispanic sister or brother that lives in our communities should show universal altruism. It is time out that because of our history as African Americans that we should limit our neighborly concern for race, class or nation. We haveto remember that in our political world it has been said that all are created equal. This does not negate African Americans or Hispanics. We haveto get to the point of our senseless thinking that we only take care of those inside our own circle. Martin Luther King stated that "If a black man is concerned only about his race, he will casually pass by the Hispanics who has been robbed of his personhood, stripped of his sense of dignity, and left dying on some wayside road". If we continue to not see each other as equal and helping one another then we are just as bad as those who would not help you if you were in a car accident and you are black or hispanic they drive by without help, so you die senslessly. Two is better than one together we can make a difference in our communities, our political leaders will listen because our voices now carry clout. This means that one does care what happens to the other these are the devasting consequences. We need to start with love, loving one as we love our selves. This is the one factor that will dominate the African American and Hispanic communities. We haveto learn truth and the courage to do what is right to bring strength and dignity to our communities by building relationships and uniformity. Stop looking at the color of our skin and begin to look upon a man/woman as equal and deserving of a clean, peaceful, world learning to forgive one anothers faults, and short comings. Stop seeing an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot. The laws of revenge solves no social or community problems. We cannot continue to hold onto the pass being blinded to what is happening around us. Believe it or not my Hispanics brothers and sisters are citizens of our great country just like our African Americans brothers and siters. We haveto see each other with integrity even though somethings we may have to be enightened by. This blindness can express itself in many ominous ways today. What better way to see them as our neighbor, our brother, or sister, but most important to see them as our friend. Our black colleges have to continue to educate our children so they can help to make a difference in our divided world. It is said that a black man will rarely pick up a book to read. Nothing pains a person more than having to think. Our children African American or Hispanic can no longer fear change. Through historically Black colleges and universalties can make the difference because so many people can no longer say that African Americans and the growing rise of Hispanics lag behind in academic, health, and moral standards. These colleges can help stop segregation and discrimination that still exsist now in the (21st) century. When these cultures are uneducated this leads to under-privileged, and handicap people which can become confused that they may lead to acts of meanness and ****. There is little hope for our African American and Hispanic students until we become tough minded enough to break loose from shackles of prejudice half truths and down right ignorance. This is why historically black colleges, and universaties can build students to learn freinship, learn affection for one another, teach them not to be self-centered, to share one another's joy and sorrow, to make a difference so people will see people and not race, creed, color. If we are to come to freedom and justice working together, love one another, educate our children see blackman and hispanic man united for the same cause then we must work passionately and unrelentingly for full stature as citizens. Being historic learning centers we must learn from pass failures, pass hurts, pass mistakes, and bring the two together as one.
