I was on here a couple of Months ago asking should I go to Hampton.
Finally, I visited Hampton and I WAS BLOWN AWAY! (as in blown away like smelling a fat girls cooch)
The dorms were MINI and had mad leakage. There was a leak in the ceiling from the top floor to the bottom floor. They actually gave me a tour of the room with the leak.
So, I saw the girls and said maybe I should still go, but when I got to Financial aid, they said that there was none available.------still, I was motivated by the beautiful ladies.
I went to another office and then it all began....They gave me they RUNAROUND! "Go to this office, go to that office, no--go to this office" I spent 3 and 1/2 hour to get ONE PACKET!!
So--My dad said were through and were leaving.
I decided to Attend Old Dominion University because I still wanted to be in the Tidewater area,
Did I make the Right decision?
I think your experience at Hampton was unusual......all of my experiences so far have been cool (fin. aid, student health).....as far as financial aid goes....seems all HBCUs are struggling giving out aid.....Hampton isn't alone....I visited 3 PWIs and they too had some issues......I think we as a people sometimes have less tolerence for mistakes from our HBCUs and people who look like us....do they mess up......yep.....do some PWIs mess up.....yep......so.......you will know if its the right choice in a few weeks......I can feel you with the financial aid issue.....I was accepted to a PWI and they offered me $8,000 in aid ......problem was the total cost a year was $37,000.......so.......
Both Old Dominion University and Hampton are very good schools. The bottom line is that its ok that you didn't choose Hampton, Its not for everyone, the important thing to remember is how do you feel after the visit. Noone wants to go to the college that left them feeling bad, so I wish you the best of luck at ODU, and its ok Hampton , everyone knows that every college goes through their rough times so keep ya head up.
You be alright.....like someone said before me-one school aint right for everyone.....HU and ODU are good schools, and ODU has plenty of black people...and if u need that HBCU experience----u got NSU right around tha corner or u can cross the bridge and go to some of HU's festivities. If u go to a PWI, its not the end of the world-neither will u feel "left out" because u dont go to a HBCU. Trust. I wanted to go to Howard-but things aint work out there, so i ended up at VCU---and i couldnt have it no other way. 8) But yea if u felt that Hampton wasnt for u and liked ODU instead.....GO HEAD-more than likely u will be happy with ur decision.
