Unity Among Minority
Minorities in America are starting to become the majority in America and whites are about to become the minority. African Americans and Hispanics have been struggling against racial discrimination and poverty, lack of education, and less economic power over the years. Despite these factors against them many notable African Americans and Hispanics are in wide-ranging areas of employment from high ranking positions in corporate and political arenas to the far reaching fields of science, religion and entertainment. What the African Americans and Hispanic communities need to do is support each other and they can change their life situations. In this essay I will explain my thoughts and solutions detailing why Hispanics and African Americans need to improve their community and strive for excellence. One of the why s the minorities can strive for excellence is by strengthening the ties within there community. One of the ways they can do this is by having the community have meetings about the wellness of the community. They must see through their barriers and have neighborhood watches to stop criminal activity and bring businesses to up build the community. They also need to help each other make connections in the work force so that when one makes it out the other can go get help from them to get resources to get a higher position of employment and etc. They must also overcome racial stereotyping each other so that these stereotypes won’t hurt there chances in the job environment, relying on skin color to protect them from financial insecurity, and to consider a wide range of options available instead of being in the street, and committing criminal acts that can get you an extended prison sentence. Historically Black Colleges and Universities can support the growing needs of African Americans and Hispanics in the United States in a couple of ways. Well one is that they can support there education financially through programs like financial aid, scholarships and loans because a lot of them are working minimum wage jobs, do not have the support of there parents or resources and connections, and are young parents trying to provide a better future for there children. Also the Historic Black Colleges and Universities are making sure that blacks and Hispanics complete there curriculums and graduate than the traditional white institutions. This was accomplished by the students being more competent in entrance exams, and navigating academic pathways to make sure the student is skilled in that field and is ready to go to work it after or before graduation. Also like the rest of the institutions, HBCUs must focus on high-quality teaching, meet the certain needs of the student, improve student-professor contact hours, and get rid of institutional policies and practices that hinder a students self achievement. African Americans and Hispanics need to collaborate to address there cultures place in politics, communication and community issues for a lot of reasons. First of all they can take political action by voting at the polls. Everyone’s vote will count and if the monitories don’t vote they won’t have a say so in the up coming elections. One other way is proportional representation. This would assure assures fair representation for both majorities and minorities so that it will increase the votes and would be an important step toward empowering neglected minorities and creating a more democratic political system. Also by addressing the community and communication issues minorities like Blacks and Hispanics will be able to stop gangs and criminal activity from taking over the neighborhood. Like I said before they could organize a neighborhood watch to deal with cross-cultural issues, have there children interact with each other after school and during school functions, looking out for each others children and making sure they are not in any gangs, and have fund raises to benefit the community. Furthermore cultural issues that crop up are getting the right representation to get resources and this can be established with great leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. who are affluent and have connections to help others. Also Blacks and Hispanics need to respect each others beliefs, expectations for behavior, and values if they are to get along in the same community. Also they have to deal with getting housing in neighborhoods and that can be solved by trying to get a better education so they can get into better housing and learn to cope with the racism so they won’t be cut out of opportunities. To achieve improved results for the African American and Hispanic population they need to strengthen the bonds between there communities, address certain issues like politics and the community problems such as business to up build the community, and that they need to be support each other in there goals. By doing this and making connections in certain fields of employment both minority groups can be successful and become the majority and no longer the minority.
