roomates that steal or always want to borrow your stuff Posted on 06-18-2008

I don't know if this is just me, but when yall got ready for college did you ever worry about having a roomate that might steal or have a bunch of friends coming in and out of the dorm who might do the same? I know there are some of yall out there who know yall got some nice ish (jewelry, kicks, laptops, clothes, etc.) and I wanted to know how yall handled it. Did u buy a safe or what? I ask because I'm about to move into my dorm next semester and I KNOW I got some nice stuff, especially jewelry, and thought about buying a safe to protect it, but I don't want to buy this safe and then have my rommate/other people thinking like "WTH, she think her sh*t too good to leave out!?" I don't want my new roomate to think I automatically think she's going to steal.....any advice? Please and thanks in advance

lol I know right Really? You're going to go to Spelman too? I go in Fall of '09. How bout u? ^_^
I hope I'm going to go to Spelman. Fall of '10. I just heard they aren't so generous in the financial aid department. My parents aren't to keen on paying 30,000 a year either when I could go to a state school for alot cheaper. So if I don't get any money I'll probably go to Howard or Hampton. But Spelman is my first choice by ALOT. haha. I love that school and will do just about anything even if it means taking out alot of loans. How are you planning to pay?

Well I'm basing my judgement off of my friends sister who used a trunk for four years at spelman and never had anything stolen once. Btw, the tsa locks can't be broken with a shoe. It isn't that simple. You should watch the video of these trunks. I posted a link for the op, it is near impossible to break into.
dam u was right.... i props u for that one... its like gettin into fort xnox.. lol... i had a trunk too... they broke my lock and took my ish lol... its long gone babe...

LAWD! I heard Spelman is stingy as HELL wit the money, and my family isn't feelin the expenses either, but don't give up girl! Even though we could DEFINITELY go to cheaper schools, Spelman is more than a school. It's an experience! I know I'm probably going to have to take out a loan too, but dammit I'll do it with a smile cuz that is my dream school. Have you checked out fastweb? You could try your luck at winning scholarships. I think I've worn my fingers down to nubs with as many essays as I've written lol

Yeah see my mom knows about those amazing scholarships at howard and hampton and to her the experience would be about the same so she thinksI should just go to one of those schools. I agree though Spelman is definitely an amazing experience that i don't feel can be matched by any other school. I've looked at and joined fastweb but I feel like so many people apply to those what is the point. lol. Have you had any luck? I'm getting one scholarship from being an AKA debutante that will be pretty big and one scholarship from my church that will help. In my moms eyes if I got a scholarship from Howard or Hampton I could save the AKA and church scholarship for law school so it still doesn't really help.lol. I need a miracle or a great scholarship from Spelman.

Nope. I've had no such luck with fastweb, but I can't say I didn't try! lol Like you, my money comes from other sources. Most of my scholarships and grants come from my school and church, but that's only about 9 or 10 grand, which won't transfer out of state and won't NEARLY cover Spelman's costs. *sigh* I'll keep doing the fastweb thing though and hope/pray for a miracle! I hope in the end you decide that Spelman is for you and we'll be reading about each other on the "Acceptance Letters" forum. <--that reminds me...you don't see too many people on this site going to Spelman. You mostly see Howard/Hampton prospects ( is it HowardHamptonconnect.com now?), but I digress . Good luck!

Thanks good luck to you as well. And if Spelman doesn't hand over some money it'll be howard or hampton for me too. lol. I'm praying though. The debutante scholarship would at least cover first year room and board. Hopefully I'll get the deans scholarship. I've already taken the SAT once. 1310/1600; so I think I might qualify. Of course their website doesn't list qualifications though.

Thanks TSUbluetiger. Some of the scholarships they list seem more realistic compared to fastweb. I'm going to get on applying for the ones I qualify for right now.
