I'm not sure how to phrase this question so... Posted on 07-13-2008

Okay. I'm going to try to make this question as generic as possible because if I don't know anything else when it comes to Greek orgs DISCRETION IS KEY! So, I just wanted to ask about the...popularity i guess...of some sororities over others... It just seems that at most schools AKA and DST are the main focus and the ones everyone talks about or wants to be a part of and the ones that win all the step shows and have the hottest strolls and the crunkest parties and what not Why is it that u hardly hear about Zeta and SGRho? Are there any schools where these two are the "hottest" or "crunkest"? Why does it seem that these two are not as...i dont know...i dont want to use the word popular again but...popular...as the others? And that can even include multicultural organizations... I was thinking it had something to do with AKA and DST being the oldest sororities...but correct me if I'm wrong My mom said it depends on the region. For example, my mom grew up in the DC/Maryland area, and she said that there were some sororities that she hardly knew anyone from, but when she moved to NC and went to NCCU it was the complete opposite... I know this is long...sorry...Im just naturally curious and long winded (lol) Just asking...

I don't think it can truly be explained. It's what we would call in the business an "unexplainable phenomenom!" It just is! Maybe more ladies think they look better in pink and green or crimson and creme than they do in any shade of blue. Just a lil jokey joke You live in the south?

Actually, I know of some schools where Zetas are running the yard. Zeta has become very popular down south. They are taking over a lot of pretty girls too. On some campuses they are prettier than the AKA's and Deltas. SGrho is kind of popular up north. There are very few SGRho's in the south. Anyway, people don't need to sleep on Zeta's because they are becoming very popular and will eventually take over most yards. For one thing, they are nice females and they don't offend people like some of the other orgs do. (I'm sure it is a different story when a person is on line for Zeta but until then, they are nice to people.) That is why a lot of women are gravitating towards Zeta.

I just want to point out that the "orgs" don't offend people... People in the orgs offend people... Just a note of clarification because I know that any sister can get twisted... Regardless if she's DST, AKA, SGRho, or Zeta... I love all my Sister Greeks and have nothing but admiration for them. Women who are true to their respective organizations shouldn't be catty or silly... To the OP, it does vary by region. The south tends to be bigger in DST and AKA due to what was going on in the early days of our Sororities expansions. I know for my Sorority, our movement from day 1 has been public service and at the time of our expansion in the South we were fighting for civil rights. It would stand to reason that both DST and AKA would have had many chapters in the south by the mid 30s, when Zeta and SGRho were just starting their expansions. Alot is based purely on history and tradition... I have many friends who did pledge Zeta and a couple that pledged SGRho. All in the South.
