I'm not sure how to phrase this question so... Posted on 07-13-2008

Okay. I'm going to try to make this question as generic as possible because if I don't know anything else when it comes to Greek orgs DISCRETION IS KEY! So, I just wanted to ask about the...popularity i guess...of some sororities over others... It just seems that at most schools AKA and DST are the main focus and the ones everyone talks about or wants to be a part of and the ones that win all the step shows and have the hottest strolls and the crunkest parties and what not Why is it that u hardly hear about Zeta and SGRho? Are there any schools where these two are the "hottest" or "crunkest"? Why does it seem that these two are not as...i dont know...i dont want to use the word popular again but...popular...as the others? And that can even include multicultural organizations... I was thinking it had something to do with AKA and DST being the oldest sororities...but correct me if I'm wrong My mom said it depends on the region. For example, my mom grew up in the DC/Maryland area, and she said that there were some sororities that she hardly knew anyone from, but when she moved to NC and went to NCCU it was the complete opposite... I know this is long...sorry...Im just naturally curious and long winded (lol) Just asking...

Whoa. You could be an Eastern Star and be part of a Greek sorority? I didn't know that. I thought it was one or the other. That's a pretty cool way to build karma.
Yes, you can be in both... there are plenty of members in various BGLOs that are also members of Eastern Star.... And sm112... I've answered you as much as I plan to in an open forum. If you'd like to know more, you'll just have to pledge.

Um, I thought it wasn't cool to say 'pledge' anymore due to all the negative connotations (or so it's been said) that goes along with it. I bet you'd know better than I do, since you're actually part of a Greek soror. But then again, it was a Zeta of a graduate chapter that told me this...

Actually, you don't have to answer anymore questions because I already know what they do during initiation ceremonies. The Greek rituals were originated from Masonic groups because most of the founders were a part of Masonic groups. I already know what they do during Masonic initiations because I'm a part of one, and the Greek ceremonies are similar. I guess if I decided to join a Greek organization, I would have to contact the nationals because that is a form of hazing if you are totally against taking oaths. People take oaths lightly like it is no big deal, but it is very serious. My allegiance is to Jesus number one.

Symantics.... Pledging was banned in the late 80s/ early 90s.... doesn't stop folks from using the term symantically...

You THINK you know (but you have NO idea)... but whateva's clever... Why'd you ask if you (think) know???? Jesus Christ IS my Lord and savior. Folks **** me with the "oath", "allegiance", etc.... I seem to recall every single week day for at least 13 yrs of my life getting up with my hand over my heart PLEDGING ALLEGIANCE to the freaking FLAG of the United States of America... Yep, sororities and fraternites are JUST like masonic orgs and we worship the devil... yep... everyday... Then once a month we get together and meet about it... Please pray that we become delivered.

Well, you might as well take an oath with the devil because that is what you have done when you take an oath to some Greek goddess Minerva or whatever you want to call it. Anyway, the oath taking process seems kind of strange. If the Greek organizations are so called founded on "Christian" principles, why is it necessary to take an oath to some Greek mythology god? Hmm.. interesting. Actually, the Masonic orgs aren't that bad! I do know what they do during the Greek initiation process because I have family members and friends that are a part of the organizations. Actually, they do MUCH WORSE than making people take oaths. I'm not going to even get into the hazing that they do, and that is at the Graduate level also. Anyway, getting back to my original question that I had. I just wanted to know if you could skip the oath taking process. If I decided to ever join, I would just contact the nationals and find out their stance on that. That's if I ever decided to join, because I have encountered so many people in the past with nasty attitudes about the Greek organizations (not saying you) that has somewhat turned me off from having a desire to join. As I have said before, I am NOT going to RUN to any organization to give out a bunch of money and waste time. If someone asked me to join, I would have to sit on it for a while. Anyway, good day Ms. FAMUDva.

Yep, you're so wise... Minerva the Goddess I pray to every night... Girl, I'm too tired... I'll let you believe what you wanna believe. Since you have so many family members in greek orgs they can break it down completely for you point by point. I don't know squat . I respect your choice to do you... in the meantime, it would be beneficial to NOT say things that may be untrue about things you have no direct personal experience with... I'm not masonic and you don't see me talking about what I "know" they do... but that's just me. ...and good day to you too Ms. sm112 Note to all: my posts are ALL in fun... These boards and other folks issues ain't that serious to me.
