I have seen numerous threads from people asking about the popluarity of Greek Orgs on different campus. I'm curious to know why NON greeks want to be apart of a BGLO. Because it seems are if popularity plays a key part. Hey you could even tell me why "ur friend" wants to join..lol
I'd want to join an organization because i feel as if it can be a symbiotic relationship.
I can give to the organization (writing talents, public speaking, etc.) and the organization can give to me (networking opportunities, large scale outreach, sisterhood, etc).
As for me I am a freshman at the first hbcu...being as though I am the first one in my family to attend college I have no family members who are member of soroity xyz...but I know why I want to join the soroity that I am interested in. The soroity promotes the advancement of women of color as a whole and started one of the first programs in africa to help feed, provide clothes and fund education for the people of africa. With this program I will be able to complete some of the work that I want to do in africa upon graduation. Another reason why I want to join are the many women that paved the way for the organztion are some of the most world renoned leaders of this day and age.
I have no family members in any org. but I have a friend who graduated from my old college who is a Que and who would always talk about the activities that they would do in the community.
I was born in raised in CA and didn't really know much about HBCUs or Greek orgs. My homegirl at USNA would always talk about her friends org. and it just got me really interested.
I wanna be able to be part of a family that shares a bond with me about the community and being of service. That who I know will always be there for me when I need them. That just loves to help others.
Thats why I want to join. I'm def. taking my time doing my research tho. Because I do want it to be a lifetime bond. Not one that just ends when I graduate.
Pleadging intrigued me as a young'n. Like...10th/11th grade when I was lurking on here in 05/06 lol. Like...I was so mesmerized by it all. Now I've been on campus for 3 years and I'm so over greeks. It's not like we actually have em on campus, but if I were to join any sorority it'd be for networking purposes. Having XYZ on your resume can open up so many doors that you might not have even known were there.
In continuation to my previous response. I initially started researching a different sorority than the one i'm interested in, but after a LOT of researsh on ALL the orgs I just felt that the one I'm interested in called my name I guess. It was everything I was looking for. And well, I will def stay involved in it, if i get accepted, after I graduate.
