Hello Everyone,
I am a freshman attending the first HBCU. I know that I cannot become eligible for intake process until my sophmore year but I am very interested in a certain sorority and have been doing research to try and learn alot more about my choice. There are no greeks in my family so I am really unsure how to aproach a member of the sorority that I have taken interest in. My question to anybody who can answer it is what do I say to express my interest without really expressing my interest to them. I know that you are not directly supposed to tell a a greek that your a interested in their organization.
...what do I say to express my interest without really expressing my interest to them. I know that you are not directly supposed to tell a greek that your a interested in their organization.
@ statement in bold
If you don't want to express your interest to them then don't say anything. But then again, how do they know that you're interested if you keep it to yourself? You have to at least tell one person in the organization, we aren't psychics.
thanks alot I guess I could have worded the statement a little different though but I have been around some friends when they have spoken to members in sororities or frats. One of my friends just came right out and said I want to be in your organization to a member of a sorority. I guess I am just unsure as to how to go about this step like how to come out and express my intrest without offending the person or without sounding like the last freshman thats told them that they want to be a member of their organiztion.
ok that sounds..but Alot of the members in the chapter are seniors and juniors I just dont want them to look at me like just another freshman. The chapter was suspended and just got reinstalled last year. I know most of the basic history that I should and even some chapter history. I am just unsure how to approach without making my self look weird or saying the wrong thing. I know that I would start off with hi my name is ..... but then do I follow it up with "What steps do I need to take in order to be a member of your organization? I know all of the school requirements and even the ones from the chapter too so what do I really say. I just dont want to make my self look silly.
If I was the member that you approached, your "What steps..." question would be the ice breaker, especially if you don't personally know me. From there we'd discuss what you already know/don't know. But you definitely need to put the bug in someone's ear that you're interested so that your name is brought up when the time comes to name potential aspirants.
If all else fails, attend their informational meeting/rush.
