RE: Doctoral research on Chief Diversity Officers at HBCUs
Hello,
My name is Carlotta Roman. I am a doctoral student at the Chicago School of
Professional Psychology. I am writing to recruit participants for my doctoral research. I
want to invite eligible participants to participate in a study to understand chief diversity officers’ lived
experiences within higher education. Specifically, participants will be interviewed
about their perceptions of their use of authority, power, and influence. I am looking at CDOs at predominantly white institutions, historically black colleges and universities, and community colleges to compare lived experiences.
In order to participate in this study, participants should be:
At least 18 years of age
Currently employed as a chief diversity officer (titles may vary) at the executive-
level or in the most senior administrator role responsible for diversity with a
higher education institution
Have at least one year of experience as a chief diversity officer (titles may vary)
in their current or previous role
Participants will be interviewed one-on-one for 60-90 minutes (maybe less based upon
responses) through Zoom web-conferencing (cloud sharing will be disabled), and
video and audio recorded solely for data collection. The recorded interviews will be
transcribed into written transcriptions as the primary source for analysis.
If you would like to be a part of this study, please remail me at croman1@ego.thechicagoschool.edu.
Sincerely,
Carlotta Roman
