hand shaking Posted on 11-21-2004
brooklyn, NY
A friend of mine told me that you are never suppose to shake a delta or AKA's hand. She said that one time when she was introducing her self to one of them and she reached out to shake their hand they just stood there and looked at her like she was crazy. what is the reason behind this? and is this looked down upon?

In this thread INTRO 2 GREEKS 101 Did you just cross? If not, last time I checked the NPHC included nine fraternities and sororities: Alpha Phi Alpha Alpha Kappa Alpha Kappa Alpha Psi Omega Psi Phi Delta Sigma Theta Phi Beta Sigma Zeta Phi Beta Sigma Gamma Rho Iota Phi Theta So that rules out Gamma Sigma Sigma. Last I checked Iota Phi Theta was the only BGLO to nationally recognize Sweethearts. So please inform me, and the huddled masses. Because I can't see it based on the information you've provided. What makes you think you're D9?

The better question for the moment is are you grown or a child? No need for the cloak and daggers.

You should re-read some of your posts.

Based on the logic and premises entered here it should not have been a surprise.

Based on some of your responses this would be a much more acceptable answer than you actually belonging to either of the above.

I'm glad that you recognize.

Was reading an article on the missing girl in Aruba. The father said" S he was supposed to pledge a sorority this weekend" Remember she was/is an entering freshman. Do you think white frat and sorority members are less dedicated and committed tham BLOG's? They make it so easy and appear so "welcoming" for aspirants. Come on in and move into this fabulous house on campus. My co-worker says her son's house has a chef in 2X weekly. Yes, I AM D9, before paper, when hazing was an open secret , so I am acquainted with the process. Do we have to do all this to make you "love" the org . is my question.

The whole thing with handshaking is this: You're Greek, and there's line of people waiting to speak to you after an event. The only reason they want to speak to you is because they want to be Greek too; if you weren't Greek they probably wouldn't even give you the time of day. So person number 1 out of 30 comes up to you and wants to shake your hand. She's in a 3 piece suit and she just finished sitting through a 2 hour program where she probably spent the entire time thinking about how much she wants to be a member. Her hands are probably sweating, and she puts her hand out to shake yours. Lets cut the pretense. We're not trying to get to know each other so we can be pals, you're trying to gain brownie points with me. I could be a germaphobe, your hands could be sweaty, so many different issues. Personally I've always thought that hand-shaking was superfluous in everyday society, so why not cut the crap at the programs as well. How does me shaking your hand make me any more likely to pick you. Especially if you have rough skin or something... That was a joke people. But for real, hand shaking= pointless
