This has got to be one of the most RIDICULOUS topics ever posted on this board. First of all, there is no "VS.". Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. does not rival with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. or any other sorority for that matter. Black Greek letter organizations are about so much more than that.
Coco_sunshine2003--you need to grow up, read, expand your mind and come back and ask an INTELLIGENT question because all of the above are ignorant.
Hey Black Folks! Lets be real no sorority is better than another, everyone has there own personal choice. Though there are several stereotypes about each sorority it basically boils down to the foundation of each. Yes the Delta's did break off from the AKA's however, they still have much love for one another. Because every sorority in the Devine nine is connected not only through the Pan-Hellanic Council but also the fact that the four sororities in the Divine Nine were all founded on Christian principals which bind them together on a spiritual note. For an outsider looking in it may seem as though AKA's, Deltas, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Z Phi B are all for show but they most certainly are not. Many if not all the women in these sororities are very active in the community, submitting themselves as servers for the community and helping to develop and shape the community into higher places. Every sorority in the Divine Nine is based on service. I've done a lot of research and have spoken to many of the sorors in each sorority and it's not about who's better than the other because in the end they are all aiming for the same goal. Sure a little healty competition at a step show comes along every once in while but who doesn't have a competitive side? Basically when you make the decision to be in a sorority it's much more than being popular among your peers but you are stepping into a sisterhood which is bond that last for a lifetime. I got love for all the ladies in Black soroities holdin it down for Black women in America and in some cases over seas. And yes I will be pleding next semester I'll let you know when I cross over into the sisterhood of my choice! I loveyall, stay encourgaed and God Bless! Hope I was able to give you a better understanding.
Earlier in the post, someone wrote that Halle Berry was a soror, and said that she was a "skater". I don't mean to sound silly, but was does this mean?
Who cares? Why are we as black people always trying to compete
with each other about everything. I have both Deltas and AKA's in
my family and both sororities attract strong, beautiful and intelligent
black women who are about bringing positive progression.
So let's not fall into the "Willie Lynch" syndrome.
Bottom line is, if segragation was back again today we would all
be sipping from the "colored" water fountain.
Honestly,
Its not hard to understand why there are different sororities out there. Even being women of color, we can all be divided into different categories depending on our personal style, interests, and even taste in men. =) There's no wrong answer for who you are.
But the point is, at least in my opinion, is that we should all be united under a common goal to serve our community. A recent graduate in High School, I yearn to be able to go back and motivate the young sistas of my community and urge them to pursue educational success. There are mothers, stuck in cycles of poverty with no educations, that can be helped. I want to be able to help my sisters all around the world to become successful women and love and care for those around them.
It seems silly to me that such a good concept can be turned into a materialistic, shallow rivalry that pushes aside our main goals. So girls, let's get together and lift one another up instead of trying to bring each other down.
These orginzations were founded on Christian principles which urge us to love one another. So no matter our different tastes in groups, let's just find a way to work together and improve our communities.

Well, just so that everyone knows, I am a Delta and I have greek unity with every sorority, including the AKA's. People hype up man made beefs and others bandwagon. On my campus, the AKA's and the Deltas get along just fine.
