ACADEMICALLY ELITE HBCU??? Posted on 03-09-2004
In Rod We Trust

I was just wondering which HBCUs are known to have the highest academic standards and best reputation for excellence? I did a little research on it before, but the only schools I can still remember are... Howard Morehouse Clark Spelman FAMU Hampton Dillard Stillman Xavier Tuskegee I know there were at least one or two more on my original list, but can't remember what they were. Any glaring omissions? Also, what academic area are these schools best known for? For example, I know FAMU has an excellent reputation for business. Finally, what are the top 2 or 3 HBCUs to attend for an education degree? I know that's a lot of info to ask for, but I have 3 or 4 friends considering attending HBCUs that are asking me for advice, and I don't know enough to tell them. Thanks in advance for any help.

P.S. Hampton has been a University since 1984. its a lot of history behind that, which only Hampton students understand.

 ...like I said...Hampton is known as the "Harvard of the South" whether you agree or not...as far as Howard...DC folks don't consider themselves Southern Duke no comment on how they exploit black athletes and how when you go there and ur a black student most likely you are there for a sport and if not folks ignorantly assume that you are...but again no comment on that
Cosigns. Why was Duke even in this conversation :?

^^^ people will go thru any means to hate...I guess since their school couldn't live up to Hampton's standards they had to throw some other names in there. And you know white is right these days so I guess we can't argue with the whole Duke thing

Let me go ahead and set the record str8...only at "hampton" is hampton known as "the harvard of the south".... anywhere else... its Hampton Unversity. ...if thats what they teach yall to be at hampton, then thats good, more power to ya, but the rest of the world dont care.. besides, why would yall want to live up to another school expectations anyway

^^^Wow.....thanks for "setting the record straight" Hampton is not trying to live up to anyone else's expectations. If we were, we would only enroll rich white young men. Hampton has its own history and legacy, just like all of the other HBCUs.

omg...the black pride thing is good, but Hampton is no harvard of the south...by far! sorry to bust ur bubble but there are many southern prestigous schools that out rank hampton, both PWI and HBCU! im not hating, i even considered going to hampton at a time and i found a lot of things that were good about the school. and im sure its lot better than my school seing as how im a high school senior. im simply speaking from an unbiased and objective point of view, unlike JJ (of course your're going to try and blow you own school up!). and if blacks were as academically competitive as whites then we could be admitted into these prestigous white schools like Duke and Harvard. i dont want to get into the intircacies of that, but please, speak truth, not partisan bullsh!t

Man ya'll stop the hating. I know many people other then Hamptonians who have called Hampton the Harvard of the South. I dont know why everyone gets their **** in a bunch over Hampton. Geezus, get off the glands man! I promise I have not seen so many people criticize a school as I have seen this past year. We're too bourgeious, we're elitists, we're blah blah blah... SHUT THE FUKK UP! Get the hate stick outta ya **** and go sit the fukk down. All these other schools have their little legacies and if urs does not, you should work on building that up instead of hating on another schools.
