Now of course you all know that I'm a be headin' south soon...and I 've lived in Toledo, Ohio all my life. I know we got some southern folk on here, so my question is...WHAT SHOULD I EXECT WHEN MOVING DOWN SOUTH? I DONT WANT NO SUPRIZES lol, so dont hold nothin' back tell me straight up...remember I'm jus an OHIO BOY who aint SEEN NOTHIN' lolol
i'll tell you up front man...you're gonna miss the women from where you're from...ppeople down here are slow as hell and lack common sense...you'll like the waether though...but that "southern bell" sh!t is a myth
Okay, I'm not from the south, but my fam is and I take offense to that bra. Everybody in the south are not slow and does not lack common sense. Man if I can reach through this computer.....
In general...
1. Stores, restaurants, and entertainment close earlier. With exception of Waffle House, IHOP, and Denny's.
2. The food is better.
3. People are more likely to speak, both as strangers and people you know.
Holla!

Yea girl! Rep for your relatives. A lot of them got Southern in they blood so they must have that "slow" gene.
as far as food...expect A LOT of good cooking on sundays...get cool with somebody grandma or something...Sweet Tea...EVERY BODY in the south drinks Sweet tea or at least tried it...
Weather: You're gonna love it, in ATL it's Feb. and 71 degrees...so imagine what it'll be like in AL
People: Southern Hospitality exists...i'm guilty of it too...we wave at people when they let us in front of them while driving...we speak and ask how you're doing...dammit we're JUST FRIENDLY!!!

Yea, when I speak to certain people I don't know, they look at me crazy sometimes. I was raised to speak to people. My mom use to fuss at me for not speaking to someone when they came into our house or someone they approached us. I'm a friendly nicca too and I make no apologies about it. I'll start talking to your **** like we've been know each other for years.

See...Ohio is in desperate need of that right there!!! Ask Afropoeticsista (Tori) about UT, she's up here wit me, and she'll tell u tha same thing
From my experiences, this is what Ive learned and have had to become " accustomed to " since coming to school down here from the north:
 The HEAT...Lord knows when its hot down here it is HOT...way too hot for my black ****...
 THE ACCENTS and DIALECT...I been down here almost 2 years and I still have a hard time understanding what folks be sayin. In my experiences, alotta southern people talk fast and slurr their words which makes it hard for me to make out what they sayin...but usually by the third repeat I get it.
 THE HOSPITALITY...people are alot nicer and friendlier down here than they are up there..and thats always refreshing and something to look forward to.

UGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH I hate sweet tea. I just can't get with it.
I've been in Augusta Ga. all my life and I pretty much know what to expect.. Southern people aren't slow by any means but they do have slower speech. That may make them seem slow.. Southern hospitality isn't everywhere in the south so please watch out about that. Where you are going you need to watch out for white supremacy groups. In truth nothing is drastically different about the south to the north. The only real thing that is different is the slang we speek. Learn how to use them to your advantage.
