Ok I have come to realize that us greeks tend to get stressed out over some of the things that prospects may do or say…simply because they do not know proper protocol. So this thread is for all the greeks to list things that ALL ASPERANTS SHOULD KNOW in terms of proper behavior. (Lets try to keep it simple)
I will begin:
1) Do not go to an interest meeting for more than one org…do your research until you know which one is best for you.
2) If you only want to be greek for the following reasons…then this isn’t for you:
A.Want to join because you like to step
B.Want to get more girls/guys
C.Want to become popular/accepted
3) Do not wear and org’s colors to an interest meeting
4) Do not throw up greek hand signs or do the calls
5) Do not go around telling people what org you are a prospect of.
6) Stay away from the words “ I’m gonna be a ________” or “I’m a future________”
7) Do not cut through party walks or brake lines.
'Tis all for now…
I just want to give you some advice from my point of view... I don't think its a good idea to visit or go to more than one intrest meeting, due to the fact that by the time you are ready to go to an intrest meeting you should have allllll ready did your research and have made up your mind on the one organization that you would like to be a part of, I hope this helped.
Yeah, I was just wondering so I won't get it confused. So it is okay to go to all the Greeks tables at a meet and greet, but just don't go to more than one interest meeting. Okay I understand now. So at the interest meetings it is really the time where they go over information pertaining to rush, right? How long is Rush usually held after the interest meetings? Also, would you suggest going to all the functions of the organization you are interested in? Such as parties, etc. Would it be wise to go their parties? Do they look for their potential candidates to be at those type of functions?
Is there a general website where they are all listed by name. I know there are several of them. Is it true that the Deltas are the nerdy ones and the pink and green girls are the siddity ones?
I knew they were going to light into you for saying that stuff! LOL Those are just stereotypes. I assume you must be a Freshman or in High School? For future reference don't say that stuff in public. It makes you look naive to the Greek culture. It's all good though, at least you were corrected on this message board before you said that in public. People get mad about those stereotypes they sometimes get ready to fight over that stuff! ha ha
There are some siddity Deltas and some smart AKA's! People are people and you will find all types of different people in these Greek organizations. So don't buy into the stereotypes.
Also, you mentioned something about going to each organizations table at a M & G, so if a person gets rejected they could submit to another org without looking suspicious. I thought that a person shouldn't submit to a different organization if they get rejected. Wouldn't that seem like that individual is not loyal and just want to "be greek"? That seems real flighty to me. Also, I didn't think that the other organization would want xyz's rejects? Even though some organizations do take on another's rejects! I don't know you might have meant that differently CNels but that is the way it came across! LOL
I could answer each question individually, but I'll make it short. Don't always look at someone joining another org as rejects or somebody else's "leftovers". You never know what their reasons were....unless they tell you. What I spoke upon in my last post was about perception, what it looks like when you show interest in only one organization. I know folk personally who wanted one org but chose another, some were rejected, some caught themselves before they made a LIFELONG mistake. Were they talked about? OF COURSE! But the talk goes away and they are simply known as a member of XYZ....not the 'reject' of ABC. Life's too short.

So tell me, C_Nels...what org or orgs. were you interested in before Alpha?

This should be interesting...

Sorry Cnels, I have to disagree with you on this one. Greek organizations are based on loyalty. If a person has submitted to an organization and turns around and pledge another one that person isn't loyal to any organization. I understand what you are saying that people should have other options if they get rejected. I say the option is to either go Grad or just not be Greek at all. The Greek world is a small world and everyone tends to know people in that circle. The Greek world is also about respect. The person that goes and pledge another organization after being rejected will always be known as a person who just "wants to be greek" in those greek circles. There will always be someone who is going to hate on them for doing that! They lose their respect. If you feel like you have always wanted to pledge xyz, why in the world would you go to another organization and submit? That doesn't make sense. It seems like that person is choosing to settle for an org that wasn't their first choice! I feel like that person who does that, isn't loyal to anyone's organization. I don't understand why an organization would take on someone's rejects? You would think that they would be mad at the particular individual who had the audacity to come and submit to them as a SECOND choice. If the org is a second choice would that person even value that organization? Just a thought!

This should be interesting...
My blood sister, who is older than I am, was a Sigma Sweetheart when she was in school. So I gravitated toward Phi Beta Sigma b/c that's all I knew, until I did my research and realized that their organization wasn't for me. I just woke up! I didn't keep you waiting too long did I? lol
