Prospect Protocol Posted on 06-17-2005

Ok I have come to realize that us greeks tend to get stressed out over some of the things that prospects may do or say…simply because they do not know proper protocol. So this thread is for all the greeks to list things that ALL ASPERANTS SHOULD KNOW in terms of proper behavior. (Lets try to keep it simple) I will begin: 1) Do not go to an interest meeting for more than one org…do your research until you know which one is best for you. 2) If you only want to be greek for the following reasons…then this isn’t for you: A.Want to join because you like to step B.Want to get more girls/guys C.Want to become popular/accepted 3) Do not wear and org’s colors to an interest meeting 4) Do not throw up greek hand signs or do the calls 5) Do not go around telling people what org you are a prospect of. 6) Stay away from the words “ I’m gonna be a ________” or “I’m a future________” 7) Do not cut through party walks or brake lines. 'Tis all for now…

I recently went on a college tour at the HBCU of my choice and there was a bench with one of the sororities Greek letters and chapter name. I asked our tour guide if it was a problem to sit on the bench since I always heard you couldn't unless you were a member of that organization. He told me it wasn't a problem and that you just can't stand on their plots when they are stepping. I'm confused because many people say different things but I will make sure I don't sit on that bench.

It all depends on the chapter, some chapters don't mind but others do. I guess that at whatever campus you were on at the time, the norm is not to sit unless invited.

I don't know how to feel about this situation so before I embarass my self I think I'll get some advice on the situation. I've attended a few of this particular org. events as this was the org. I found interest in. I also, got friendly with some of the members not real close but to the point I'll greet them if I see them. Recently they had a coming out, however there was no interest meeting for the past two semesters so I was a bit confused maybe it was invite only. Also, there was a fake facebook account made (I assumed it was by the members of the org. my reason for this assumption is stated later) and the person sent a message to me and a few persons asking us if we were interested in the org. and why, I knew it was most likely the members because some of the persons on that same list came out. I was honest, I don't know if I made a wrong move by answering and I shouldn't have said anything but I simply stated I was interested and it was becaue I liked their relationship as a sisterhood and I realize that they had been doing alot on campus as an org. but I didn't say anything about wanting to join more or less interested in learning more about them. So I felt like maybe I was rejected and I don't know if I should pursue it anymore.

Sounds like they're picking who they want and your "hi and bye"s didn't catch their attention.

I know times are changing but I'd be suspicious about any FB groups probing for interests. Good ol' face to face communication is best. If there is a next time and you're questioned, verify with a member of the organization before you respond and put yourself out there because it may be a hoax. Just because some of the members on the list came out, doesn't make the list legit.

I agree, that particular aspect of it turned me off a bit from wanting to be apart of that org. I'm a real person and I'm very approachable and they all know me, so if they wanted to ask me something I feel that they can come and ask me face to face, because I'm sure that I see at least 3-4 of them once or twice the campus isn't that big and we float around some of the same circles and groups. That is also true it doesn't have to be real, but I'm sure its someone that attends the school because you know how facebook works where in order to be in the school network you have to have a school email, so it doesn't necessarily have to be them, but it just kinds of fit, seeing as they didn't have a public interest meeting and every single girl on the list except maybe one came out. But you never knw. I think that I may have made my decision on which one I want to pursue, I don't know if its wrong that I had an interest in a different one at first, but I'm changing my mind, but reading this thread has given me alot of insight on how to behave if you are interested. I don't go screaming to this sky that I want to be apart of this org. or that org. I made my decision privately and when the time comes I will see what happens if given the opportunity.

I wouldn't have been answering to a facebook inquiry. LOL That could have been anybody or just some random person on the campus who wanted to be nosey and find out what folks wanted to pledge.

You must be trying to get folks jumped on!  All orgs have a problem with you sitting on their bench or walking on their plots.  They be ready to jump on somebody about those plots and benches! 0

That's true, but I just think that something ain't right with that on the whole and that whole chapter. So I'm staying away from that all together. Real people to Real things.
