Greek Life in General, what is your opinion? Posted on 06-21-2005

Okay, I have always wanted to ask this question about greek life in general. The question is, what is your overall perspective of greek life, was or is it worth your time and effort now that you have pledged an organization? Are we as BGLO's making a difference or are we just flowing with the tide? Let me hear your opinion or opinions on that. Non greeks feel free to give your opinions as well...

Good stuff...I always thought about bringing that up. It shows not only Greek unity, but also black unity. As well, it's a great way to get GOOD press to our universities.
You're absolutely right, girl! ;-) I love to see positive coverage on our HBCUs. Unfortunately, our colleges/universities are seen in a negative light most of the time (well at least here in the Richmond area.) Every now-and-then, news stations would cover graduations @ VSU and Va. Union, sports events, and that's about it. But, if something negative happens, everyone knows about it. I'm not trying to be mean or pessimistic, I'm just being real.

That may not be a bad thing, actually.

I think that college is just the start. I know @ my school you can see the Greeks(ALL OF THEM) @ various charieties and organizing many different volunteer groups for themselves, nongreeks and the general public. Every org has it's on way of promoting their events, so just because you didn't see flyer (CHANGE PLEASE) please remeber that it probably just missed you. Those flyers are expensive so if you act the same way you do here as you do in public then why would they want to waste a fkyer on someone so negative?

^^How do you figure? Please enlighten me... It just seems so unfair... We (as a university) contribute a major percentage of BET's workforce, and yet, we'll never get coverage... especially on major events where it would have been GREAT to have media: Anything homecoming-related, the Hip Hop Caucus, Football Classics, et cetera.... I dunno... perhaps its better to shield ALL press to prevennt BAD press...

I gotta say i'm kinda with DSTined on this one homie. Good and bad comes with media coverage, and most of the time it's more bad than good. Swygert eliminates it altogether to even prevent the possibility of negative press. But true, since half of the School of C works their **** off for BET (aye, that's me...look out for me at the award show on Tues ), it wouldn't hurt for us to get a lil airtime. But look at the flipside, AJ mentions us so much on 106th, that technically we're gettin some kinda coverage

Thanks Kenya. I'm just seeing this so she actually stated how I would have replied. At A&M we do a lot of good things too and there is rarely a news van in sight at this time. The second, however, a fight breaks out, the president is being looked at negatively, etc. there are swarms of media coverage. I'm saying its smart to just eliminate the media all together. If you all are doing positive things in the community, those that should know (the people you help) will and I'm sure they'd have no problem spreading the word.
