you know i've never seen a light skinned Black girl with long hair
it was always weave
akatude is the stereotypical aka
only i'm not sure if that's her hair
but anyways
now anyone who is into reading should read some old book
that actually documented aka's and their color struck inutations
they WERE actually color struck and if you were not light enough
you didn't get in
i thought that was interesting because a myth came out to be TRUE
of course it's different NOW but to KNOW that your org WAS discriminatory like that has to make u feel bad
poor aka's

First, I don't know where you've been if you've never seen a lightskinned black girl with long hair. Obviously not at Howard lol.
Secondly, look at our main founder Ethel Hedgeman Lyle. Is she lightskinned? What about Lucy Diggs Slowe? I rest my case.

There are so many things fundamentally wrong with this post but please explain what you mean by the bolded part.
What myth? That all AKA's are light-skinned?
I also encourage you to go back and re-read your "old book" and see what several black organizations, not just Greeks, were practicing at the time...
listen listen listen
u know the myth that the aka's historically back in the day wanted and accepted only light skinned heads
i'm sure there were token darkies
but that myth was proven to be TRUE
that's what i'm saying
and i live up north and never seen a light skinned Black with long hair that was hers
they rock good weaves just like some of the other Black females
How was the myth proven to be true?
Are you saying the myth is true because there is a light-skinned AKA on this MESSAGEBOARD? :???:
I'm just trying to understand what you are getting at and, more importantly, why?

Well, come down to the South and you'll see it.
Change, I know what you're talking about. They say back in the day, AKAs used the 'Brown Paper Bag' and the comb test.
Quote:
The brown paper bag test was designed to calculate complexion. A brown paper bag was placed next to the hand of a person and if the person was lighter than the bag, they were welcomed into the organization. If the person was darker than the bag, membership was denied.
The comb test consisted of the test-givers running a fine-tooth comb through the hair.
If the comb did not pass smoothly through with ease, membership was denied. Those accepted into the organization passed the comb test since the fine-tooth comb glided down the strands of hair with ease.
