Job Description
Dentist (Prosthodontist)

The Prosthodontist shall be proficient in all aspects of prosthetic and restorative dentistry. Specifically, the provider should possess the expertise and competency to perform the following:

Perform prosthetic dentistry to include immediate dentures, full dentures, partial dentures, crowns and fixed bridge work.
Make oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity.
Diagnose pathological or irregular oral conditions.
Perform routine and complex restoration of teeth.
Be proficient in treatment planning and delivery of care for simple and complex restorative cases.
Fabricate simple and complex implant supported restorations.
Administer local anesthesia.
Supervise dental residents with different clinical abilities in treatment planning and delivery of dental restorative care

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of dental surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools area: United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed. Or schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth, (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of an approved residency training in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.

Physical Requirements: Physical activity includes sitting, standing and walking for extended periods, heavy lifting, reaching above the shoulder, and repeated bending. Candidates must be emotionally and mentally stable.

Preferred Experience:
  • This position requires a Prosthodontist that performs prosthodontic work full time.
  • Has completed an American Dental Association approved Prosthodontic training and is eligible for prosthodontic board certification.
  • Maxillofacial prosthodontic training is also an additional preferred characteristic.
  • Knowledge of Keyboard/computer experience is very helpful since our charting system is electronic.
  • Experience with residents or students is also advantageous, since we have a general practice residency program.
  • Required a Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
