Under the direction of the Executive Director of Health and Wellness, the Director of Counseling Services oversees the delivery of counseling services to individual students, couples, and groups; provides mental health prevention and educational programs; provides consultation on psychological issues to faculty, staff, and organizations within the campus community; is a member of the Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) Executive Team; participates on SHCS committees and represents SHCS; coordinates mental health emergency and crisis response activities; and directs and oversees the overall operations of Counseling Services including supervision of professional counseling and support staff to include recruitment, hiring, evaluation and professional development, outreach and consultation services, professional and peer education programs, clinical quality management and risk management programs, and pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training program.

As a member of the SHCS executive team, participates in the development and implementation of the Counseling Services and SHCS strategic plan and key policy provisions for the organization. As a member of  Counseling Services clinical staff, participates in the comprehensive mental health activities of the program.

Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
• Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, licensed or able to be licensed as a Psychologist in California within six months of hire.
• Five or more years of experience as a clinician and administrator in mental health clinic or university counseling center setting.
• Three of more years of experience in the management of financial resources and budgetary planning.
• Demonstrated skills to mentor, lead and supervise professional, clinical trainees, and support staff.
• Demonstrated understanding of large clinical service delivery systems.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of campus partners including colleagues, students, and community stakeholders.
• Demonstrated leadership skills to inspire confidence and motivate and guide others.
• Analytical skills to make sound judgment and be accountable for decisions.
• Experience in the analysis of complex information or problems in an objective manner and derive logical conclusions to provide a sound basis for establishing priorities and selecting appropriate courses of action.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to work on multiple projects with competing deadlines and to establish goals and workload priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience managing a community based mental health
prevention and wellness service for a culturally diverse population.
• Experience working with student populations and/or experience in a higher education setting.
• Experience directing mental health services in an integrative theoretical framework.
• Knowledge and relevant experience of data base management, program evaluation, and clinical services coordination.
