Job Description

The TIMSS & PIRLS International Study Center is home to two major international research programs that monitor student achievement in mathematics, science, and reading. TIMSS (the Trends in International
Mathematics and Science Study) is conducted on a four-year cycle and measures mathematics and science achievement at fourth and eighth grades in more than 70 countries. PIRLS (the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study) assesses fourth grade student achievement in reading in more than 60 countries on
a five year cycle.

The TIMSS & PIRLS International Study Center at Boston College is looking for a Research Specialist, Data Analytics and Programming, to join its data analysis team. The position requires a strong background in statistics, data analysis, and SAS computer programming. Data collection and reporting for TIMSS and PIRLS take place on regular, ongoing cycles. The position involves conducting statistical analyses necessary to analyze and report the results from the TIMSS and PIRLS assessments.

Responsibilities Include:


  1. Conduct data analysis for the TIMSS and PIRLS research projects

  2. Assist in developing, maintaining, and documenting processing systems and computer
    programs required to analyze data from the TIMSS and PIRLS assessments

  3. Develop computer programs for data analysis exhibits published in the TIMSS and PIRLS
    international reports

  4. Contribute to documenting and publishing the TIMSS and PIRLS international databases anduser guides for each assessment cycle and used by researchers around the world

Requires:


  • Master's degree in computer science or statistics, or equivalent knowledge of computer
    programming and data analytics

  • 2+ years of experience

  • Qualifications in statistics and computer programming

  • Experience in data analysis and programming with large and complex databases

  • Experience using SAS statistical procedures and SAS macro programming

  • Experience working in an international and multicultural environment

  • Experience in writing technical documents

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written

  • Ability to persevere, maintain focus in developing/writing computer code, pay close
    attention to details

  • The ability to work with others under pressure to adhere to tight deadlines

    This is a grant funded position.
