Hiring Range: $110,750 to $138,450; salary commensurate with relevant experience

The Captain-Patrol Operations & Community Policing Services reports to the Executive Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police and serves a vital command role as the lead manager of the uniformed services of the BCPD. In addition, the Captain serves as a senior BCPD management representative on campus during certain hours or events. He/she assigns, coordinates and directs police and security patrol resources, and ensures through Operations Lieutenants, Staff Sergeant and Patrol Sergeants that appropriate field supervision occurs. The Captain is responsible for ensuring that all members of the department under his/her command are effectively trained, prepared and supported to perform their duties to protect the University community by employing the practices and philosophy of community policing and
exceptional community service.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree and five years of experience as a police commander or supervisor; or ten years of experience as a police officer, at least five of which must be in a command level capacity with positions of progressive responsibility if a degree has not been earned. Also required: MA Driver's License, MA License to Carry a firearm consistent with departmental needs, Police Authority, Sheriffs Authority. Must maintain strong basic knowledge in community policing philosophy, crime prevention methods, and current public safety training trends. Evening and weekend work may be required, and work beyond usual work hours as well to support major University events, functions or emergencies.

Strong written and oral communication skills, ability to organize administrative projects, direct, motivate and supervise subordinates, conduct staff inspections and evaluate performances of personnel are essential. Advanced degree preferred.
