Job Description
ADDICTION THERAPIST
  • Serves as part of the Snyder House staff, Addiction Services providing addiction related psychological and social assessments as part of the intake procedure.
  • Conducts therapeutic in depth counseling in accordance with specific guidelines.
  • Contribute to Multi-disciplinaryTreatment Team (MTT) decisions concerning appropriate treatment planning and contingencies required for the therapeutic progress of individuals.
  • Administers psychological tests (Brief Addiction Monitor, etc.) to clients, observing and recording clients reaction.
  • Assist nursing with facilitating referrals of client's to CMC VAMC ARU and other relevant programs. Follows up to ensure continuity of care.
  • Assist nursing with providing case and crisis management as clinically indicated. Provide support services as indicated.
  • Develops and maintains communications, rapport and positive working relationships with a variety of institutions, organizations and service providers.
WORK SCHEDULE(S): M-F 8am - 4:30 pm
M-F 6am - 2:30 pm with rotating Saturdays 7:30 am - 12:30 pm

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have successfully completed of a full four (4) year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in behavioral or social science or related disciplines appropriate to an Addiction Therapist. Transcripts must be submitted with application. Education cannot be credited without documentation.
or
Four (4) years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that you have acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field of Addiction Therapy.
or
A combination of education and experience that provided you with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field of Addiction Therapy. (Transcripts must be submitted with application. Education cannot be credited without documentation.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: OR, experience providing substance abuse therapy to a wide variety of patients; screening patients to identify the existence of substance abuse; devising graduated treatment plans with multidisciplinary team members; providing group and individual counseling; and administering specialized/diversified treatments for patients with substance abuse problems.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed two (2) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree related to this position. Transcripts must be submitted with application. Education cannot be credited without documentation. OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and graduate level education.

"Master Level Experience is Preferred but not required".

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: Physical demands are not a requirement of this position but the employee will need a high level of energy which will allow him/her to address multiple issues coming from a variety of individuals and groups. Because of the location of the clinic he/she will find it necessary to travel to the main hospital in all types of weather
