Job Description
Maintenance Worker
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Performs visual examinations and operational tests to determine the need for repair.
- Performs addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and simple fractions to plan/measure material according to requirements and
dimensions outlined in instructions.
- Performs carpentry, painting, masonry, plastering in the maintenance/repair of specific areas of the facility.
- Utilizes hand e.g. woodworking/mechanical tools, portable/stationary power tools in repairs and alterations as required by the facility.
- Utilizes brushes, sponges, tools and materials and/or other equipment to obtain the proper texture and appearance.
- Performs painting methods/techniques e.g. cutting-in techniques, dip and over flow methods as required.
- Repairs of i.e. wood/tile floors, carpet, ceramic/ceiling tile; ceilings; windows, blinds and hardware as required.
- Maintains doors (automatic) by adjusting closing times, door speeds, and remove and/or install circuit boards/push plates as required.
- Applies and uses prepared solvents, thin and stir coating materials.
- Performs the following e.g. sand, wire brush, scrape, spackle and putty surfaces as needed.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements:

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The employee is required to work in a variety of conditions that can be dirty, dusty and greasy. Workers are required to work inside and outside under a variety of conditions i.e. inside temperatures ranges from heated areas to cool air conditioned areas, outside mild temperature to humid temperature. There is danger of falling while working from ladders, scaffolds and roofs. Workers are susceptible to minor cuts, bruises and/or irritations and is required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when necessary. The position requires the incumbent to be in good physical condition and able to work at various heights, e.g. working from ladders, scaffolding and roofs. Workers may be required to work in positions e.g. standing, stooping, bending and other tiring and/or uncomfortable positions. There is a requirement of being able to lift objects weighing over forty (40) pounds and occasionally lift objects weighing over ninety (90) pounds.
