Investigative Assistant

OIG is organized into three line elements: the Offices of Investigations, Audits and Evaluations, and Healthcare Inspections; along with the Office of Contract Review, the Office of Management and Administration and the Office of Special Review. In addition to the Washington, DC, headquarters, OIG has offices located in more than 30 cities throughout the country.

As an Investigative Assistant, you will:

  • Receive investigative reports from Special Agents (SA), input case data into the Master Case Index (MCI), develop narrative case summaries for entry into MCI.
  • Generate various progress reports from MCI for the SAC, ASAC or RAC and generate various statistical reports from MCI for inclusion in the OI's submission to the Semi Annual Report to Congress (SAR).
  • Extract background information from various computerized database systems, including NCIC, BDN, PACER, SHARE, Autotrack, and PAID.
  • Fully responsible for the purchasing, distribution, and management of supplies.
  • Assist the IAC, RAC, ASAC or SAC in estimating an upcoming budget based on previous expenditures.

Specialized experience:For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experiencefor this position includes:

  • Maintaining project files and keeping records up to date with pertinent information; AND
  • Responding to inquiries regarding specific cases; AND
  • Preparing background information and reports for staff; AND
  • Preparing various routine office reports.

For the GS-08, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experiencefor this position includes:

  • Administrative support. (examples might include coordinating travel arrangements, purchasing supplies, tracking technical, office, and personal equipment, etc); AND
  • Assisting in the preparation of project files and gathering relevant information; AND
  • Accessing background information from various data bases.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
