Job Description
Physician (Cardiology)

The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (BPVAHCS) is recruiting for a full-time Cardiologist with interest in Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). Board eligibility/certification is preferred. Candidates should have expertise in non-invasive cardiology including echocardiography, stress testing, and TEE. (BPVAHCS) has a comprehensive multidisciplinary team that focuses on providing evidence based care to patients with CHF. Coverage on the CHF rounding team and outpatient follow up clinic will be a priority for this position. Strong experience in treating patients with CHF preferred. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide comprehensive cardiology care in outpatient cardiology clinic, the CCU service, inpatient consult service, and residential treatment units.
  • Provide timely documentation of patient care in the electronic medical record including H&P or consult notes, TEE/echocardiogram reports, progress notes for inpatients; encounters for outpatients, discharge summaries and instructions, transfer summaries and prescription renewals.
  • Provide healthcare by electronic as well as video tele-health modalities.
  • Maintain BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Provide direct clinic supervision of cardiology fellows, technologists and nurse practitioners.
  • Attend cardiology team meetings and medicine service meetings.
  • Serve on committees, participate in quality assurance programs, assist our facility to meet established performance measures in the area of cardiology, and such other duties as assigned by the Chief of Medicine, Chief of Staff or the Director.
Work Schedule: Weekdays, week-end, holiday, and on-call duties ares shared equally with other cardiologists .

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience: Expertise in non-invasive cardiology including echocardiography, stress testing, and TEE as well as expertise and interest in CHF.

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (45 pounds and over); Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (up to 8 hours); Standing (up to 8 hours); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; Both eyes required; Depth perception; Ability to distinguish shades of color; Hearing aid (permitted).

Environmental Factors: Working closely with others; Protracted or irregular hours of work.
