Job Description
Staff Physician Artesia CBOC

This individual will be responsible for evaluating Veterans in their homes and developing a comprehensive plan of care, for medically complex patients, in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team. In addition, the physician is expected to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and behaviors that promote mutual team respect and cohesiveness, as well as a demonstrated commitment to ethical care for the diverse needs of New Mexico's veteran population.
This position requires home visits using a Government vehicle for travel up to 75% of time serving an area of 100 mile circle surrounding Artesia, NM. Our rural provider can expect to travel through multiple areas of New Mexico.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm

Specific duties will include:-Provide primary care in the Veteran's home environment including, evaluation and treatment of each Veteran's healthcare needs and support veteran and/or caregivers social and psychosocial needs in collaboration with HBPC interdisciplinary team.Participate in weekly, and informal, interdisciplinary team meetings.
Participate in Veteran and staff educational activities; as well as, medical research, performance, and practice improvement activities.
Initiate appropriate referrals, consultations, community follow-ups and orders in collaboration with medical director and interdisciplinary team.
Collaborate with HBPC team members in the development of clinical program policies and procedures.
Meet and maintain qualification standards, functional statement duties, and professional certifications as required by VA policy.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.
Preferred Experience: Board Certified/Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Practice is preferred, but not required, as the New Mexico VAHCS is affiliated with the University of New Mexico and is an academic facility.

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (45 lbs and over); Heavy carrying (45 lbs and over): Straight pulling and pushing; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking and standing up to 8 hours; repeated bending; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; hearing aid permitted.
