Job Description
Physician (Gastroenterologist)

The Minneapolis VA healthcare system (MVAHCS) is seeking a physician that is board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology. Key duties include diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with gastrointestinal diseases according to evidenced based methods and techniques. The ideal candidate should be proficient at routine and advanced GI procedures such as: colonoscopy, EGD,ERCP, EUS, and its associated procedures such a luminal stenting, EMR etc. The Minneapolis VAHCS is a tertiary care level 1a facility, with a strong research infrastructure and is affiliated with the University of Minnesota. The incumbent will have an academic position at the University of Minnesota and participate in educational program for gastroenterology fellows, medical residents and medical students. The incumbent will also provide outpatient and inpatient consultation and management of Gastroenterology patients as well as provide teaching and supervisory oversight of the trainees. The incumbent will also have opportunities to pursue research, develop clinical programs and pursue other academic interests.

Candidates must be board-certified/board-eligible in Gastroenterology. EUS/ERCP training is required.

The incumbent may be eligible for Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) and a recruitment incentive, subject to availability of funds.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.
Preferred Experience:
  • Board-certified/board-eligible in Gastroenterology.
