HEALTH TECHNICIAN
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/31/2019. Minimum Qualification Requirement - To qualify for the GS-07 grade level, you must have: A. One or more years of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service (or equivalent in other pay systems) that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: applying casts to patients with fractured bones of the muscular skeletal system and extremities; assisting physician with the elevation of an extremity by use of a sling attached to an overhead frame to prevent swelling and loss of circulation; ensuring patient's charts, x-rays, and test results are made available prior to appointment time; and fitting, testing, and evaluating devices on patients, and make adjustments for proper fit, function, and comfort. Or, B. Successfully competed one (1) year of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree. This education was directly related to the work of a Health Technician. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the one year of full-time study requirement. (You must submit a copy of your transcripts as proof of any claimed education). Or, C. Combination of specialized experience and education as described in A and B above. To compute the formula for qualifying under this combination, first determine the percentage of the specialized experience you possess; then determine the percentage of the education you possess; then add the two percentages; they must equal to 100 percent to qualify. (You must submit a copy of your transcripts as proof of any claimed education). A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Physical Requirements: The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion. It may involve walking, frequent bending, reaching and stretching to set up and take apart equipment, lifting and positioning patients for testing; and carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects. Duties require above average dexterity to operate and maintain various equipment.
