The Officer of the Day position serves to manage staff resources and ensure the facility functions efficiently and effectively during their shift at the Minnesota Sex Offender Program (MSOP) while maintaining a safe, secure and therapeutic environment. This position requires the occupant to work the 1st watch (night) rotation and to work a 12 hour weekend shift rotation. The Officer of the Day is responsible for the supervision of Security Counselor Leads and Security Counselors which direct, design, and organize program service delivery systems to their assigned work areas. Through effective management of staff and resources, the Officer of the Day maintains safety and security for all staff, clients and the public.
The client population is represented by diverse cultures and needs which requires continued attention to ensure that dignity and respect are maintained in the process of providing a safe and secure setting. This position acts as a liaison between MSOP and the criminal/civil court systems and interacts with numerous professionals both within the Department of Human Services and with other agencies and entities.
The hours of work are typically Monday - Friday 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. The incumbent will be required to work a weekend rotation.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Providing oversight to staff to ensure duties are performed and achieved in a manner that supports the Minnesota Sex Offender Program mission and treatment philosophies
Managing all aspects of employee training including training development, performance evaluation and identifying training needs
Serving as a resource and subject matter expert in the development and implementation of policies and procedures
Promoting client participation in treatment programs and supporting pro-social interactions
Managing and monitoring the physical, social, and therapeutic setting in order to maintain a safe and secure environment
Minimum of two years supervisory experience in a secure environment providing direct supervision of security or patient/client care programs, to patients/clients committed as sexual psychopathic personalities, sexually dangerous persons, mentally ill and dangerous, or with developmental disabilities, who present a risk to public safety;
Minimum of three years leadwork or professional experience in a secure environment providing counseling, rehabilitative patient care, or direction of client care programs for patients committed as sexual psychopathic personalities, sexually dangerous persons, mentally ill and dangerous, or with development disabilities who present a risk to public safety AND 12 months of supervisory experience. [Note: Supervisory experience does not need to be within a secure environment.]
o (A Masters Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Rehabilitation Therapy, Health Sciences, Behavioral Sciences or a related field may be substituted for 1 year of leadwork or professional experience at this level; OR a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Rehabilitation Therapy, Health Sciences, Behavioral Sciences or a related field may be substituted for 6 months of leadwork or professional experience at this level);
An equivalent combination of the above.
Knowledge of psychopathic personalities and sex offender treatment modalities
