About the Position

Senior Environmental Scientist | Wethersfield, CT

Responsibilities

  • Perform field environmental permit compliance observation and reporting on energy projects, transmission line construction projects and others, focused on implementation and maintenance of soil erosion and sedimentation control measures and practices
  • Turbidity monitoring of stormwater
  • Assist the department Director or a Project Manager with state and federal wetland permitting applications
  • Work within a team of professionals to conduct a wide array of ecological, wildlife and water resources related studies and analysis for a multitude of environmental, land development and energy (transmission and renewables) projects
  • Perform wetland delineations in accordance with state and federal criteria
  • Data analysis and technical report writing

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work confidently and independently on highly active construction sites
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills as this position will require coordination with subconsultants and colleagues in other office locations regularly
  • Must have experience reading and understanding engineering site plans
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to grow professionally
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems
  • Strong communication skills between clients, contractors, and state/federal officials

Qualifications

  • BS in environmental science, natural resources, wetland science, soil science, ecological sciences, or related field
  • 8+ years of professional environmental consulting experience, including experience conducting wetland delineations and state and federal natural resource permitting
  • Certifications as a Soil Scientist and/or Professional Wetland Scientist preferred, or the qualifications and ability to obtain certifications immediately after employment
  • Must have experience on construction sites and with Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control measures and practices. A Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) is preferable
  • This position may include night/weekend shifts and/or working in challenging weather conditions
