Job Description
Quality Assurance Analyst

Our Mechanicsburg factory, built in 1969, is located just eight miles west of Pennsylvania’s state capital of Harrisburg. Unique to this factory, it’s situated at a transportation crossroads where three of the U.S.’s most heavily-traveled interstate highways traverse the region. With 40 percent of the U.S. population located within 500 miles, including the metropolitan areas of New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., this area offers our associates both small-town living with quick and easy access to the “purrrrr-ks” of a big city. Our Mechanicsburg factory is one of the largest manufacturers in the area and produces a large portion of Nestlé Purina’s dry pet food portfolio, including Puppy Chow®, Dog Chow®, Beneful®, Pro Plan®, Alpo®, Kitten Chow®, Cat Chow®, Friskies®, Nestlé Purina ONE® and Kit ‘N Kaboodle®. Beyond our work in pet food production, we support various local animal shelters and organizations (Susquehanna Service Dogs Organization and Woofstock among others) to more deeply impact our ability to enrich the lives of pets everywhere.

In a typical 24-hour production cycle, we conduct 30,000 documented quality checks involving ingredient/packaging, receiving, processing, and packing. That’s how much we care.

You will gather samples and work in the QA Lab testing for protein, fat and moisture utilizing testing equipment and some wet chemistry. Additionally you will perform sensory evaluations of in process and finished products. This position is responsible for testing of our pet food to ensure it meets Nestle Purina’s quality standards.  You will be the eyes and ears of Quality Assurance on the production floor and will partner closely with your team and the Maintenance and Production teams.  This position will work weekend nights.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform physical and chemical analyses of ingredients, in-process samples, and finished products and analyze results

  • Work closely with Team Leaders and Team Members in the production and warehouse departments

  • Maintain chemistry lab equipment and sanitation of chemistry lab

  • Review food safety, regulatory, and quality test results prior to releasing finished goods for shipment

  • Make recommendations and decisions on product holds and releases

  • Monitor product formulas for accuracy

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 1 years of experience in quality, manufacturing, lab or a related environment
