To strengthen our team, we are looking for an R&D Firmware Engineer for the Hardware Platform Solutions Engineering Group in the Cell Analysis Division of Agilent.

As a Firmware Engineer in our R&D group, you'll be part of a team that designs, prototypes, and tests/ analyzes new products in Agilent's Cell Analysis Division. Most projects include a cross functional team of electrical, firmware, mechanical, and software engineers, as well as applications engineers and biologists, to create a complete system. As part of those projects, you will also work with our project managers, marketing, manufacturing, purchasing, and service organizations to transform your designs into shipping products. Though you'll be part of a multidisciplinary team, you will also be working independently and setting your own priorities to drive core technology growth in our division.

You will lead the firmware architecture for our current product line and next generation instrument designs. You will provide the technical leadership in all firmware disciplines, communication skills, and clear decision making for determining the direction for future enhancements to our products and designs. This role will leverage your deep experience in microprocessor-controlled instrument development to set the direction and execute detailed implementation for our future products.

Your core responsibilities will be to:

Architect, design, and develop firmware to implement microprocessor-based projects.
*

Work closely with electrical, software, and mechanical engineers on cross functional projects.
*

Designs include signal acquisition, implementation of motion control, power distribution, IO and communications interface for instrument subsystems.
*

Work with project managers and product managers to identify and develop key requirements and transition complete designs to manufacturing and provide supporting specification documentation.
*

Estimate project needs and time required for development. Facilitate transition of product design and enhancements to full production.
*

Lead development and advancement of internal firmware and electronic design capability.
*

Specify product functional requirements. Designs, develops, executes and evaluates validation testing and product specifications. Documents research and design specifications.
*

Solve complex and high impact design and development problems including customer application issues of varying scope and complexity. Uses product and customer applications knowledge to determine, define, develop and validate design concepts and methods. Supports continuing engineering projects and may support manufacturing, QC and procurement projects.

Provide specifications and technical guidance for design consultants and subcontractors.

Qualifications

*

Bachelor or master's degree in electrical or computer engineering
*

Firmware engineer with 4+ years' demonstrated experience and expertise working in R&D on firmware architecture designs including ARM/PIC/HCS12 processors, FPGAs, motion control, high gain amplifiers design, and data acquisition components.
*

Demonstrated experience leading firmware architecture design and analysis efforts for biological measurement instruments that include fluorescence detection and/or electro-optic designs.
*

Ability to write firmware for instrument control, debugging, verification, and test.
*

Demonstrated knowledge and expertise successfully transitioning product designs to manufacturing including design for manufacturing skills.
*

Experience using Xilinx Vivado, MPLAB, Microsoft Visual Studio
*

Experience integrating software applications to microprocessor environments.
*

Visual Basic and/or C# programming experience.
*

Experience with digital programmable logic design using VHDL or Verilog
*

Excellent test, measurement, and documentation skills with significant attention to detail and ability to solve multidisciplinary system level problems.
*

Familiarity with control systems, including the ability to design and characterize them for stability.
*

Excellent team communication and ability to guide discussions in cross-functional teams into broadly agreed decisions.
*

Project leadership, specification development, and coordination internal and external design resources.
