Description:
The Director is a member of the APU faculty on a 10-month contract. The Director provides oversight and direction for the Tutoring Center operations as well as its professional and student coaches. In accordance with the university strategic plan and the vision of the Office of the Provost, the Director oversees, implements, and assesses Tutoring Center activities that serve APU students (graduate, undergraduate, and professional) and academic departments across two Azusa campuses and multiple regional sites. The Director often networks with Faculty from every academic program, the Writing Center Faculty and Coaches, the Academic Success Center Director and Coaches among others to foster academic success among APU students. The Tutoring Center supports a diverse student population, requiring the Tutoring Center Director to have a strong record in and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusivity.

Specialization:
Area of specialization is open, but since the majority of courses the Tutoring Center supports are within STEM fields, teaching in a STEM discipline is preferred.

Responsibilities:
Teach up to 12 units per AY in the Directorís area of specialization.
Provide leadership and coordination of tutoring services for students across all of APUís campuses and regional sites.
Oversee all aspects of the daily operation of the Tutoring Center, including booking systems, budgeting, and public relations.
Hire, train, and supervise full-time coordinator, office assistant(s), graduate assistants, and student tutors.
Provide ongoing professional development for Tutoring Center staff related to tutoring, embedded tutoring, student services, including online delivery of tutoring services.
Promote and publicize the services of the Tutoring Center (e.g., programs, philosophy, and procedures) to the campus community.
Collaborate with academic departments to determine tutoring needs.
Coordinate the creation and dissemination of academic support resources.
Communicate regularly with faculty and academic departments in regards to tutoring referrals, specific tutoring issues, and other relevant information.
Coordinate with the Information and Media Technology office to keep up with the best practices of tutoring centers as it relates to the technology and equipment needs of the Center
May be needed to work at alternative Regional Campuses or Sites.
Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to the needs of the university.

Qualifications:
PhD or other terminal degree in an area of specialization taught by the APU faculty.
Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with faculty and students.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work creatively and cooperatively.

Experience:
At least two years experience teaching in a higher education institution.
At least two years experience in college/university tutoring with active membership in tutoring associations preferred.
Strong project planning and management skills for projects of varying complexity.
Experience working with multilingual students is preferred given the fact that approximately one-third of our clients self-identify as multilingual.

Workload:
The Director is a full-time faculty member that splits time between teaching and managing the Tutoring Center as outlined above.
In addition to the duties named above, the Director carries a 2/2 course load.
