Senior Lead Control Management Officer

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Lead Control Management Officer to join the Internal Control Program (ICP) team within the Commercial Banking (CB) Control Management organization. The ICP team partners with the CB businesses to develop and maintain a strong control environment leading to the early identification and sustainable mitigation of operational risk. The ICP team specializes in optimizing the system of internal controls and proactive monitoring of the control environment across CB. The ICP team leads response and resolution actions to address control deficiencies and emerging risks for complex controls that operate horizontally across multiple businesses. This role will be responsible for coordinating with other control testing teams such as Evidenced Based Control Evaluation (EBCE), Enterprise Testing & Validation (T&V), Wells Fargo Audit (Audit), as well as other constituents as needed in support of the CB Control Management team.


In this role, you will:

  • Function as the CB Control point of contact for key partners in EBCE, Corporate Risk, Audit, and other constituents; ensure that all inquiries are responded to appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate internal testing engagements/approach with EBCE, T&V, Audit, and Regulatory exams.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with the business teams, control management, Corporate Risk, Audit, and Legal as well as engages with Regulatory agencies.
  • Monitor, measure, evaluate, and report impact of decisions and business controls to business leadership.
  • Lead the strategy and resolution of alignment issues raised by other control programs/functions.
  • Facilitate extensive collaboration with stakeholders across multiple lines of business and various control programs.
  • Follow and adhere to applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit's risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.


Required Qualifications, US:

  • 7+ years of Risk Management or Financial Services Industry experience, or equivalent experience demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • Direct experience in design and monitoring of systems of internal controls and risk mitigation strategies
  • Commercial Banking experience
  • Control Testing or Audit experience
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills is a must
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to synthesize complex analytical findings into understandable, actionable information and recommendations presented to executive business leadership
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment
  • Change Management & Process Improvement experience
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision in a highly matrixed environment
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and creative problem-solving techniques
  • Ability to consult with business partners to define key performance metrics, dashboards or scorecard


Job Expectations:

  • Due to a city-wide mandate in New York City, all individuals who perform in-person work or interact with the public during business must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or qualify for an approved accommodation to be exempt from being fully vaccinated.  Currently, this position falls under the scope of this mandate.
  • NYC Comp range $144,400-$300,000 USD Annual
  • Expected to be in the office 3 days a week
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
