Benedict Gospel Choir praised for commercial.
Posted By: Marcus Jamel Adams on September 18, 2005 June 25, 2005 - Last year, the award-winning Benedict College Gospel Choir recorded a commercial for WIS, promoting the station's news team and its "Count On WIS News 10" branding campaign, and now the choir and WIS are receiving recognition for that effort. This week in New York at the annual PROMAX conference, WIS won a PROMAX North America 2005 Gold Award in the "Use of Original Music Composition” category. The music for the promotional spot was composed by choir director Darryl Izzard. The station asked Benedict's choir to get involved with its marketing efforts because of the choir's national reputation and its role as a community asset in the Midlands. "We knew that the Benedict Gospel Choir would add energy and a real artistic flair to our promotions, but the final product is far more than we hoped for," said WIS Marketing and Programming Director Barry Ahrendt. "If you're like me, you'll be humming the lyrics of the song, 'For the news that touches your life, Count On 10,' for a long time to come." In March 2004 the Benedict Gospel Choir won first place in a competition for Most Outstanding Choir (tied with North Carolina A&T University) at the 2004 National College Gospel Choir Competitions in New York City. The choir has been is nationally-ranked for five consecutive years.
