Senior Legal Studies major, Dexter Evans, won the 2012 Distinguished Campus Leader Award from the Texas Association of Developing Colleges on September 29. Evans served as president of Paul Quinn's award-winning Student Government Association during the 2011-2012 year. His leadership influenced the nationally covered "We Are Not Trash" movement. Evans was also the catalyst behind a nationally covered rally to call Texas citizens' attention to the "Castle Laws", similar to the Florida "Stand Your Ground" laws, which took center stage in the case of slain teenager Trayvon Martin.
Evans is a native of Muskegon Heights, Michigan where he graduated from Muskegon Heights High School. He will graduate from PQC in December 2012. Evans was nominated for 2012 HBCU Male Student of the Year and the PQC SGA won 2012 HBCU SGA of the Year at the second annual HBCU Awards sponsored by the Center for HBCU Media Advocacy, Inc. After he receives his degree from Paul Quinn, Evans plans to continue his work with Big Thought, Inc. and later pursue a master's degree in public policy.
