AME Bishop Vashti McKenzie to join Bishop 5+1 fundraiser for Paul Quinn College
Posted By: Eddie Francis on November 01, 2012 Dallas, Tex. - Bishop Vashti McKenzie, presiding prelate of the African Episcopal Methodist (AME) Church’s 10th District, will serve as a special guest for the Bishop 5+1 revival. Bishop McKenzie will join Dr. Frederick D. Haynes, III on Thursday, November 8. This year’s revival will take place Sunday, November 4 through Friday, November 9 at Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas. Funds from the revival will benefit the Paul Quinn College endowment fund and the event will serve as the culminating “Week of Faith” for Paul Quinn’s 2012 Homecoming celebration. The Bishop 5+1 revival began in 1992 as an event featuring five ministers who attended Bishop College plus one guest speaker. Paul Quinn is located on the former campus of Bishop College. A fundraiser for Paul Quinn, the event raised $216,000 and attracted more than 13,000 people in 2009. Each evening of the revival begins at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and will feature the following ministers (schedule subject to change): Sun., Nov. 4 - Dr. Ralph West and Ralph West, Jr. (The Church Without Walls, Houston, Tex.) Mon., Nov. 5 - Dr. Anthony Sharp and Christopher McDonald (Tabernacle of Praise Baptist Church, Dallas, Tex.) Tue., Nov. 6 - Dr. Karry Wesley (Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Dallas, Tex.) Wed., Nov. 7 - Dr. Denny Davis and Kandis Davis (St. John Church, Grand Prairie, Tex.) Thu., Nov. 8 - Dr. Frederick D. Haynes, III (Friendship-West Baptist Church, Dallas, Tex.) and AME Bishop Vashti McKenzie Fri., Nov. 9 - Rev. Jeffrey Johnson and Jeffrey Johnson, II (Eastern Star Church, Indianapolis, Ind.) Bishop McKenzie made history in 2000 when she became the first female bishop to be consecrated in the AME Church. She later made history again when she became the first female president of the Council of Bishops of the AME Church in 2005. The 10th District serves the state of Texas.
